Still so triggered by this, really hope we smash them KB. Bright side is my moderate respect (must have been COVID brain) for Collingwood well and truly evaporated.

On and on goes the debate about Maynard's intentions. Common sense makes it pretty clear:

(1) A player can run straight at an opponent in an endeavour to smother a kick or make a tackle.

(2) A player can leap in the air to attempt a smother.

(3) A player can't do both by launching himself off the ground towards an opponent at top speed without creating the near certainty of a high-impact collision.

Only the AFL can't see this.

The movement seems to be ignoring the impacts of shoulder to head, does he believe it is ok to target the head  or should it be sacred?

I also understand there was an increasing number of wrist and arm injuries as that natural instinct was prevalent in skateboarding and snowboarding. Wrist guards were  introduced to limit these injuries.

Theres no compensation for Gus or the club who were obviously severely affected and lost the past battle, but there may be, to use our coaches well worn phrase, some learnings that we all could see. At the moment it seems there is a continuation of violent football acts where self propelled human battering rams can inflict damage at crucial times.  

One would think that every student that expert had in his class last year would have failed the unintentional contact question.

“The AFL will change its rules so players who lay a high bump on an opponent in the act of smothering will be suspended in response to the controversial Brayden Maynard case last season.

“The league has reviewed Maynard's qualifying final bump on Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw and deemed that players in similar situations from next season must take "reasonable steps" to avoid contact or lessen the impact.”

I suspect that this will not really help much. Collingwood’s case was that Maynard acted reasonably. The Tribunal could easily have ruled against Maynard on the facts - it refused to do so.

100%. This absolutely gutless by the AFL, who didn't want to rock the boat by going against their 'golden goose' the Collingwood FC. Fact is within their rules it states that a player must show duty of care to other players, which Maynard did not. This is an a$$ covering exercise by an organisation who are spineless.

Still makes my blood boil both the AFL response and the media/wider AFL community response.

Gus reportedly hit another golfer in the head with a stray tee shot yesterday (drawing blood!).

Early speculation that the victim was in fact Bruz was quickly ruled out when it was confirmed the incident took place at Royal Melbourne, not Moe pitch and putt.

What’s wrong with pitch n put or mini golf for that matter 

it’s the only game I get somewhere near the pin with my first hit

Saw an interesting clip that i hadn't seen of Maynard swerving at the las t second in the air to make head head high contact with Brayshaw. Dog of an act by Maynard and all concerned on that side of footy including the bloody coach and the  AFL.

The AFL continue NOT to protect players and their families with a total disregard for their safety and also continue to belittle players with "airy fairy taps" in regard to race abuse which continues to happen in every game.

Well done AFL.

Not sure I buy it.  From what I can gather, Guss is a pretty good golfer, so surely someone off his kind of handicap can keep it on the fairway.

Players have been aware of the need to protect the head in golf for years now, so I think he's got off lightly if he isn't sanctioned.
