I was thinking of Smith and Turner as both starting 22 to give us options. Smith starts forward and Turner back. They can then swap if it's not working and one can be subbed out if it's really not working. It gives us a little versatility with Hibbo too.

I really don't think TMac or Brown offer much and Brown hasn't played for quite some time. I'd like Grundy in the team, but I don't see how. I think Goodie's put a line through him 🙁

Spargo could potentially add plenty and find options in the forward line. He's so often in space but mostly ignored or not seen.

If Jordon plays, I'd expect him to be used sparingly, putting a bit more pressure on the mids.

I thought last week, we'd win this if we could kick goals. Same goes for this week. If we have the same mess of forward line delivery, same result. Go Dees!

Thanks Kev and all posters love the feedback, if the boys were a bit flat I think that would reflect the collective mindset of all Dee supporters today. I know that I am struggling to come to grips with Gus’s injury, the primeval magpie supporter base and the way that we threw away that crucial game.!!!

With Jacob out, what do you suggest? Go with a medium/small player, like Spargo. (Cannot think of a medium possibility)

Turner, Grundy or BBB, perhaps Tomlinson.

Really hope the Friday game becomes the Fritta show, with a co-starring role by Smith and Kossie.

Not to panic anyone, but Clarry just posted a photo on his Instagram and he has a giant compression bandage on his knee. Someone said in the comments “sorry to hear you’ll be missing this Friday”

A compression bandage is a stock standard recovery use for majority of AFL players after a game to help with reducing off swelling and minimise the fluid build up.

Makes sense why he's having a light day today as he's probably had a knock to the knee with some swelling or even a corked just above the knee.

Would be using the RICE treatment and should be good to fully train by Wednesday.

Forward 50 pressure that the talls don't bring, plus the delivery which is missing.

Not too many options available. 

With Brayshaw out, then Tracc will have more mid time.

I can see your humour, and had a giggle myself. 

For me, Spargy is not the worst, as a role player.

Interesting to see numerous posters suggesting that Turner could be played as a forward.

Q: Track watchers - has he ever trained (or played for that matter) as a forward?

It would be almost unbelievable were he to start doing this in a cutthroat final.

No never seen him train forward of centre before today.

Thought I read somewhere about Turner playing forward in the scratch match yesterday, and he did alright.

Been saying for years we should give some players a half game in VFL at different positions. Even if it has 10% success you will find a back up.

Who knows if Tomlinson can play forward or Spargo down back. You don't need to rotate the whole team but say one half every three weeks for six players.

Turner up forward,,,, never been forward of the 50m line to my knowledge. (Mind you he's been injured for so long it's not surprising) Too late to try it now

Jefferson down back for a while next year?

The problem seems the delivery though. The player with the ball looks and sees the clump and not the one leading away from the clump.

That is his style, be unlikely to change now, but I don't think it works well.

Too many stuffed up too often on last Thursday so it's never too late I never say never !!!  
Good that Goody is thinking a bit left field. Better than Harry Petty for the last 5/10 mins last year!

That has been one of his drills over a period of time. He uses others types of drills, but seems to build the forward movement through the "ring a ring a rosie", style. He hopes to get mismatches, or a clear spacial advantage to a player. 

From that position his places himself in, Stafford can micro manage them, and I often see him using arm gestures, and after the play, chatting about it. Trying to indicate how far away they should be from each other, when the spread is used instead of the clump, or which way to run etcetera.

My problem is the outcome in the game. The player with the ball cannot read from where the leading player is going to come from or lead to, and ends up bombing it in. Then looks silly on the replay as the open player was "there".

Time for an ex-forward, to teach the forward craft.

I suspect it comes back to this particular open session not being compulsory FR.

Veterans probably one group who aren't required to attend.  They might be assigned other recovery tasks?

I am regrettably no more encouraged by that explanation. Sorry the Auskick kids play like that and end in a clump!

Why wouldn't Ooze have some input up forward. The insanity is that no one elsein the Club after 3 years mostly failure and heartache had an input.

Aldi what happens when the ball is just scrambled into our forward clump quickly. it's  just like that no separation of players same as fit marking there was 8/10 go upon Thursday all at once and once Kossie jumped on the back of the pack. Same result  no goal or mark and no front crumber either. 

He has to go it's totally stupid and disheartening.

That is only my guess of the mess.

I wished they used the natural skills of the players and stop the role play in order to make it easier to create fwd 50 stoppages. Which I believe is the main purpose, with bomb to the pack if you cannot pick out the lead. At least they aren't also pumping it near the boundary line too much now.

Friitta is a great lead, JVR can outmark when one on one's, Kossie will burn them if one on one and it hits the ground, Tracc, one on one would be a nightmare, for the opponents. 

The forward congestion is also difficult to fathom, as is the stagnation, at times. Though again, makes it easier to hold it in.

I want to see that collective flatness morph into a steely resolve over the next five days.

I want our supporters getting on board tomorrow and make it another sell out crowd. It would disgust me if the demon fan support dropped of from last Thursday.

Let’s face it, not losing anything with Van Rooyen out, a full forward who don’t kick goals.

Alternate Max and Grundy out of the square, couldn’t do much worse.
