AFLW: Rd 02 vs GWS

Featured Replies

Surprised not to see a thread on this, but clearly AFL finals have taken precedence this week. Hopefully the AFLW side can have a big win against a pretty underwhelming GWS side to keep us comfortably inside the top 4.

  • Demonland changed the title to AFLW: Rd 02 vs GWS

A little background:

Melbourne's Manuka win-loss record: First game at Manuka
GWS's Manuka win-loss record: 2-4
Melbourne's win-loss record against GWS: 4-1 (Melbourne last played GWS in R6 2022A, a 37-point win)
GWS's 2023 formline: 0-1 (a 5-point loss to Sydney)

Will be interesting to see who comes in for Fitzsimon, in a classic 'mystery injury of the week' scenario!

Very impressive performance last time out after been challenged in the first half. Now that we've blown the cobwebs off i think you'll see a slicker Dees this weekend.

Looking forward to seeing Chaplin run out for the first time this year. Loved her attack on the footy last year.

AFLW is a nice diversion from the finals. Will help take my mind off last night's shemozzle.

Dees by 35 points

I think the biggest problem here is going off into noddy land and forgetting about footy,

I’m expecting another powerful win to stamp our authority on the competition.  Dees by 30+ points at chilly Manuka Oval (which has MCG dimensions).
PS.  I need a decent win to overcome my ongoing ‘Thursday Night Blues’.

Paxy is a big out, but I loved the last half last week. We looked so dynamic. Excited to see if we can keep that form going.

What happened to paxy.

Quad strain. This is the first match she’s ever missed!

Great start Kate hore. Having The captaincy suits her.

Giants playing well here. Even first quarter

Just now, whatwhat say what said:

helluva start for kate hore

11 disposals, 5 marks, 3 goals

winning the footy forward, middle, and back

Give her the 3 votes already

Kate hore with the best quarter of her career.

Would have to be one of the best quarters of anyone's career in AFLW!

Goldie won’t die wondering. Always takes the game on.

Banning runs too far streaming inside 5p towards goal.

No dramas Makin goals a few sec later. 😀

Bannan got caught in 2 minds there. Should have slotted it herself

Looked a htb against Harris there. We got lucky

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
