there's a common theme occurring...

  • jake melksham - second rounder
  • michael hibberd - second rounder
  • ed langdon - second rounder (effectively)
  • brodie grundy - second rounder
  • shane mcadam - second rounder

any others?

Melbourne are silly dealing with the grubby Crows club. We'll look desperate .  R2 pick for a  inconsistent injury prone player ?

Bin it. Move on.

I'll be the judge of that.

Fully fit Fritsch and McAdam could be a nightmare duo to matchup for opposition defences in 2024

I can't see them both in the same team, it's one or the other.  Unless we are planning to only play one Key forward

Shane may be just the jigsaw piece  needed to complete the forward puzzle. Enigma to some of course but a great western in the tradition of Stand off at the Corvid Corral.

reckon they both play round 1 personally.

Nice to have a Western Australian who wants to come here!

He's had an interesting career. I didn't realise he only started playing AFL in 2024. His SANFL form in limited games pushed him into AFL contention via mature aged pre draft by Carlton before Adelaide wanted him in the McGovern deal.

He certainly consistently hits the scoreboard. Has some serious athleticism.

I think he will be a great addition with his speed, ability to mark as a medium fwd (186cm) and seems to be clean with the ball.

So we recruit a bloke to play VFL again LOL

Fritsch and McAdam will work well

Oh well, atleast we'll have a half decent Casey side in 24.

Please dont recruit Gunston as well. His career is all but done.

There are no readymade forwards out there coming to us. We can win it as long as our 4 main forwards stay healthy and we send Trac forward when necessary.

I'm bereft. That's a cumulative half hour a day I now have to find something else to do with!

But welcome, Shane, to you and to your fairly successful first name, MFC-wise. As to your surname, we'll endeavour to get it right by the time of your 30th goal in 2024.

Would Blake Howes swap his Shane Woewodin / Shane McGrath 22?

Closer to the NT and add the fact he had relocated to Adelaide for a few years before getting taken by Carl/Adel

Would be good to land his brother Ash Johnson also

I can see us looking at a small fwd line with both playing.  You would hope with what we have paid he is playing round 1.

I"m sure he will be, but how long it lasts i dunno.  Hopefully I'm eating my words after 20+ games and 40 goals!

We used the F2nd because we have 2 of them and only one F3rd.  It means we can still trade our F1st.

We have 2 future 3rds care of Harmes, no?

(😁 A typo no doubt, YB, but...)

To any who think his career so far hasn't been up to AFL standard, that'll be good news!

Yes, and I hadn’t realised he drives a De Lorien.

Ok please explain why you cannot play both?

Yes you're right, sorry.  I was thinking Fullarton cam for a F3rd.

He will take Melksham's spot until at least well into the year when (hopefully) Melky is over his ACL. When they are all fit and in form will be an interesting selection query...

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
