Many (many) moons ago, I lived in the harbour city.  I would go to the SCG for demons games and go off my nut.  No swans fan had a clue about the game, the rules or anything.  They have had access to lots of talent and the cola to keep things nice. Their arrogance is galling.  Going to revisit the SCG this week, will probably go off my nut and reckon most of the crowd will still know squat about the game.

I accidentally sat with the Swans cheer squad two weeks ago when attending the SCG for the first time (despite living in Syd for the past 18 months). Nobody really reacted for the whole game, or followed the squad leaders' chants, until the last quarter.  Was a very strange experience!  Especially since I was vocally supporting the Suns 😁

You’d think there’d be a little humility shown considering what got them to 7th on the ladder, ie. the worst, most costly goal-umpiring decision ever. They KNOW they didn’t win that match. They also know Tom McCartin shouldn’t be playing this week, yet they’re carrying on like they’ve earned 7th place the same way we’ve earned 4th… without any help from the AFL.

Freo were supposed to be there instead of them and TWSNBN were supposed to be instead of Footscray

Sydney fans are nothing more than theatre goers. Start losing and off they drop. Lowest form of life. Will always be second rate event in NRL heartland.

Which is why the AFL props them up. They can't afford to miss finals two years running and the handouts they get through their academies for players like Blakey whose dad is a 350 gamer for North/Lions is a downright rort. Their arrogance [censored] me because unlike a club like the Hawks who actually won through being a good club, Sydney win through being the AFLs darling - you'd think they'd remember what it was like when they were on their knees in the early 90s but then again most of their supporters didn't jump on til 96.

And the way they all cry about the trade ban they got for rotting their COLA. You gotta laugh.

Probably a bit strong.  Maybe I was annoyed at the tripe on the 'what they are saying ' thread.

Interestingly having many trips to Sysdney over recent years, I am always surprised just how little media coverage the Swans get in the papares especially up there.

Appropriating from the movies, As Morpheous in The Matrix says - The Swans are an artifical construct.   The AFL are the Bots running the Matrix.

Give me a Pies fan's sincerity and passion any day.

There are still a lot of Swans fans in Melbourne. My family has had a long relationship with the club. Maybe the Sydney supporters aren't that dedicated but the ones in Melbourne still going after their team was relocated are probably the most dedicated and passionate around .

You are spot on about the media coverage. It's almost as of the Swans, who get larger crowds than most Nrl games, don't exist.

Swans fans are next level smug. They need another 26-game losing streak.

Is it really 26 the losing streak as this week North lost  it's 20 th game In a row and this is supposed to be a record.

Any chance you Can confirm this record please either way?

Thanks

Good call - I was talking specifically about the sydney types.  Yes, I have a rabid swans neighbour in Melbourne, family tradition etc, and they are great.

Coincidentally, much of the Matrix was filmed in Sydney. E.g. the 'lady in red' training session is in front of the Martin Place fountain. I used to work directly opposite the street corner where Neo takes off from right at the end of the movie.

I think it will be 20 in a row in one season.

They won their first and third.

Guys, Sydee clearly means it is fine... which incidentally is a long way off good or even great 😁

(As a Melbournian relocated to Sydney... you really do have to go out of your way for a proper cup of joe)

I relocated from Melbourne also - tbh I've had my fair share of downthesinkacinnos there too - glad to hear you have managed to find an acceptable brew in Sydney.

Here's an update ahead of game day!  Strangely, there was a lot of talk about potato cakes vs potato scallops ???

The honking continues...!

Nothing would send a shudder throughout the AFL finals teams more than us delivering a comprehensive win against the top 4 demons. It will give us a great mental edge.

We are like the Average Joes team in Dodgeball where the team lost but because someone on the other team got tested positive we were in the final tournament by default. Has a feeling of that sort of a season.  Fairytale ending please.

Response:  and the team starts training most nights with longmire throwing wrenches at them!

Last week confirmed we are the feel-good story this season, we've already been pencilled in to win the flag. 😍

Has there ever been less interest in a game thread that could bring us a home final?

Bless you poppet - but NO - a win will not stop people saying we shouldn't be in the finals.

Response:  It’ll give us a counter argument at least lol

Awful news.  The AFL has responded to the Adelaide goal post embarrassment by giving us:  Meredith (2016 GF), Gianfagna (corrupt), and Chamberlain (😡).  Thereby ensuring we will be absolutely reamed, presumably to appease the Crows and frothing media pack.

Response:  Razor Ray gonna give us the make up frees after we cop some from Gianfagna and Meredith 😹😹😹

Further response:  TBH i don't think the umps love Melbourne that much.

Probably one of the strongest sides we have fielded this year, great test against a good side prior to finals. Keen to see how it plays out.

A South Melbourne supporter we can respect

Screw it. Decided I'm booking flights to go watch buddy's farewell and a good old shellacking of the dees. Should be a ripping game.

Much like us, there are plenty of arguments about resting and form

So we go in resting 4 players and get flogged by 10 goals. How does that help anyone's confidence going into a final. We've won 6 in a row so as Barry says, "don't flirt with form".

I feel like some of you forget that this is not a dead rubber for us. It's a home final on the line. 6th would be useful. Not a time to be resting players.

My favourite (from a discussion about Papley's injury)

Buddy retired just so they wouldn't play him injured

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
