My Collingwood friend is adamant the Pies have been loading

Your Collingwood friend can't drive the ball 400 yards and doesn't have a shot at the pro tour.

Good changes, still would prefer Tomlinson in down back to free Smith up forward.

Happy Grundy is back, as good as Gawn has been it's such a risk and not sustainable.

Saturday night. But, yes, agree.

Don't you hate it when you correct someone and get something else wrong.

Very happy with the selections.  I would have had Hibbo in the 22, and Joel as the Sub, but our MC know far more about these things than I do.  Onward and upward we march!

May as well watch it again.

It's great but no more living in the past. Gotta get it done THIS Sat.

It's going to be a funny experience cheering on the tillies with blues fans and collectively celebrating their awesomeness (on a related note, there is still time for the AFL to realize the complete folly of sending AFLW teams to play on sub standard grounds all round the country - and don't get me started on only 10 rounds).

Not sure how much further the Matildas will go in this tournament but i think its legacy here will be that the tournament inspired many young girls to play the game and hopefully push the sport further here.

Chatting to a (Collingwood) mate and he thinks the AFL are demonstrating a massive, somewhat patronising blind-spot in the opposing manner they've responded to men's and women's soccer. The silliness in trying to divert attention from the Socceroos, to then fully embracing the Matildas.

He wasn't arguing that that the AFL shouldn't accommodate multi-code fans, but suggested women's soccer is a far bigger threat to the future of the fledgling AFLW than what men's soccer represents to the AFL. I have to agree with him on many levels, including specific issues as to gender and parental concerns.

Not sure what it's like in the US or Ireland (the latter I am a bit familiar with though), but the jingoistic cross-code rivalry in Australia is quite bizarre, albeit driven by traditional state parochialism and other factors. However, both the men's and women's domestic soccer comps have never quite functioned properly in Australia.

So why not then embrace rival codes, capitalise on our tribalistic nature and have the domestic soccer clubs derived from traditional AFL and NRL teams? It makes so much sense to me, from both a cost and development perspective. I have little interest in local soccer, but may be piqued by the Demons playing the Broncos.

If we had an in-house professional soccer and Aussie Rules program, we may lose some talent to the other code, but that is happening already. At least in this scenario, we can get sporting potential through the door and identify the best pathway fit from an earlier age. Ramble over. TLDR: love, don't hate.

Pretty expected changes following the Mitch Cleary tweet. Good to see Schache named in the emergencies. Hopefully he’s closer to be selected if this Grundy plan goes balls up.

What a relief, Clarry is back.

Are the AFL going to change the start time to our game?

Accommodate the FIFA.

Edited by kev martin

My celebrations for Clarry's return will be subdued until at least a quarter of running at full tilt..

My pointless prediction: Gawndy to kick a combined five goals: forward-line problem solved (not actually solved, just adding to future selection dilemmas). Also, MFC vs Carlton to have many wild momentum swings.

Smith's selection is interesting

On paper the forward line looks unbalanced but let's see.

Would love to see Petracca kick 6 straight

I believe we always pick a ruckman as an emergency. Usually the breakdown of the emergencies is one forward, one defender, one midfielder (non-ruckman) and one ruckman.

As I see it, Schache is an emergency because he's the next ruckman in line after Gawn and Grundy.

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
