Sparrow is a great kick for goal outside 50

Great mark Sparrow and also well done my Melksham who did a slight block on his opponent.

Overall ...

We've got at least 5-7 players who don't impact games or get enough possessions

And about 8-10 players who turn the ball over too easily (and that includes ANB & Brayshaw)

And any number who are down on their best

Pressure accounts for a number of errors but unforced errors?  And not getting enough of it?

So that's nearly the 2/3rds of the team with some sort of deficiency

At least we don't have the yips in front of goal this week

This team can play so much better

What will it take to make that happen?

Ok folks . .. so remember that dump kick from Salo there.

Under heat thats gonna happen 8 out of 10 times.

And guess what.... you need a solid marking player, preferrably a genuine CHF right where Sparrow was there.

Fix that and you solve a gapping hole in this forward structure and give alot more confidence to those up the field coming towards 50

I’m now one hundred percent convinced.

We have the worst game plan in the world and only the fact we have talented players is getting us through some of this.

Absolutely putrid decisions after putrid decisions. The [censored] was Viney thinking then.

Like the Black Crowes sang - I need a remedy

what will that be

a Dewy?

or Hardwicky?

A crumbing ground ball win from Woewodin. Keep him in the side!

Great mark and composure Sparrow.

It's a mystery

Gus is playing well now though hey? ... getting that DE rating up after 2 errant handpasses in the first half

That must have hurt the commentators to retract the statements on Salem cleaning up the ain’t player

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
