Tackle isn’t dead: AFL sends fresh memo as Butler hopes grow

The AFL has sent a memo to all clubs outlining ‘safe tackling techniques’ as the dangerous tackle debate raged again on Thursday night. Will Saint Dan Butler be banned?

Think it said all players should carry a pillow and place said pillow on ground before tackling player.

Port are still flying under the radar a bit. if they win tonight they will have 10 wins on the trot.

Im tipping the dogs based on the dogs are due a good performance and port are due a loss. really intellectual stuff

I think it's better for PA to win rather than Dogs.

Realistically Port are certain to finish top 4, so it's better that other teams vying for fourth sport lose.

true but on the other hand we don’t want Port to finish top 2

I would think we want top 2.

Port are overrated. Besides rd 1 when they jumped the Lions still haven’t put anyone away.

Rd 1 smashed lions, lions clearly off their game
Rd 2 they got smashed by the pies
Rd 3 5 goal loss to the crows
Rd 4 2 points over the swans
Rd 5 14 over dogs, some bad umpiring in that game, sounds funny saying that against the dogs
Rd 6 pump eagles big deal
Rd 7 beat saints by 7
Rd 8 beat bombers by 5
Rd 9 pump north big deal
Rd 10 beat Dees by 4, Dees were totally outplayed. No denying it, play 1 good qtr and nearly beat them.
Rd 11 beat tigers by 10 after Dimma stood down
Rd 12 pump hawks big deal

Carn the Dogs.

Dan Butler has been offered one week by the MRP.

Have they got it badly wrong or is this proof that the Butler did in fact do it?

Garbage decision, between the umpiring, the tribunal and the push for 19/20 teams the AFL is alienating fans at a rapid pace.

The AFL is a garbage pile of steaming [censored].
Only Melbourne is keeping me from just throwing away all interest in the game.

Ok so Butler concussed Blakey who not only missed a critical part of last night but misses a game next week as well. 1.5 games in total. Medium impact.

Hunter makes contact with Rozee, who gets up like a Jack rabbit, kicks the winning goal and then goes on to have 27 touches the following week against Richmond. Medium impact.

Exhibit A - victim is concussed. Misses remainder of game and a season “in balance” game next week against Brisbane. Medium impact.

Exhibit B - Victim is the second most influential player on the ground after the incident and then goes on to have another near BOG performance the following week. Medium impact.

How’s that for consistency from the MRP.

Neither deserved of a suspension regardless of outcome

Can anyone drive Weightman to the hospital?

Mr Floppy.

I hate the way the commentators don't call out the fact that the decision was disgraceful.

Weightman is a very good player but it’s hard to like him with his flopping.

I hope mondays umpires are watching that free in the ruck. Knees into the guts !!

Lol what a comical 60 seconds that was

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
