Having watched this multiple times he deserved a week.

He stepped over the ball and made no effort to contest.

If Lachie had actually tried to get his hands to the ball he might have had a case.

    It is hard not to be paranoid and have a victim mentality when there is such blatant unexplained inconsistency in MRO decisions. We have had 5 penalties in last 3 rounds. Any other club near that?

    I hope we are taking this up with head office.

    Then let’s say he deserved a week. I could live with that.

    How do we then explain worse incidents and even injuries being caused, being let off?

    Listening to Goody's presser it reeks of a coach who was spoken to behind closed doors by the AFL to 'tow the company line'. He made no sense at all regards to saying we are learning what is allowed. Not having a go at Goody because we all know the Peoples Republic of the AFL is hard to go against.

    If he had tried as you suggest in all likelihood he WOULD  have caused injury. 

    He would not had slowed/stopped..  not turned nor braced but risky greater injury to both himself and the other nong.

    Hunter did the right thing. The AFL havent

    Actually you can tell Goody's different looks as to whether he is just so so or not...

    Yep, dived straight into or onto Rozee who was also trying to get his hands on the ball. Have you ever played footy? Because if you had, you'd not make such a preposterous statement. For the record, I doubt Gleeson has played footy, other wise he would not have suggested to Hunter that he simply should have stepped aside ...

    I don't have a problem with Hunter being suspended, I have a problem with the AFL picking and choosing which players to rub out. Ie Daicos this week. I don't want to see him rubbed out but it is the AFL who said THE AFL will introduce legislation immediately to give the Match Review Panel the power to suspend players for stomach and jumper punches. the new rules would see such incidents graded at a higher impact level.   So it's simple suspend everybody or suspend nobody. Disappointing to see Riewoldt and Howe "expect it from Howe" suggest Hunter deserved to be rubbed out last night.

    which is both correct and perfect method to pick up a ground ball and protect yourself

    Probably a bit of conspiracy about this IMV. Assuming the convo went something like , ‘appeal and win this one, we’ll come after your boys harder and harder. Roll over, know your place and we’ll resume normal duties’.

    Bravo BigShorts. Should be compulsory listening at all levels in the AFL. 

    Unless things change there's gonna be a serious, serious injury. Players are being rewarded for placing themselves at risk. 

    The ruling by Gleeson just put a player closer to permanently losing the use of his arms and legs. 

    It's just a matter of time

    Diving head first into another player should be,

    1 Reportable - one week suspension 

    2 Free kick to the player struck with the head

    3 Waiving of rights to sue the AFL for subsequent problems regarding concussion.

    If we really want to reduce head trauma ban ducking and diving in head first.

    This is the most accurate thing I've heard about these incidents. Also bringing up the 'eyes on the ball' thing being garbage is also 100% correct. If players aren't checking where others are around them that is more reckless and has a greater chance to cause injury.

    There's plausability in that.  However, what I can't stomach is the fact Gleeson did not allow the club to submit evidence.  On what grounds? That in itself is worth an appeal due to incorrect tribunal procedure.  Worked for Cripps - he wasn't cleared because he was innocent, he was cleared because of improper practice by the tribunal.

    1. Should have kept eyes on the ball
    2. Should have realised the opponent was coming in at speed head first. (without taking his eyes off the ball?)

    I think it means as footballers, they're meant to have multiple sets of eyes to enable 360 degree vision.

    The AFL is using teams like ours and lesser known players to support their defense in future suits from ex-players about head injuries.  What they seem to have overlooked is that in those future court cases the ex-players will be able to bring in videos of similar and worse incidents involving some clubs and star players that were overlooked (and also explain why those videos were not allowed to be used by the likes of Hunter).  Won't sit well with a jury.

    You can question head office, as long as it isn’t done publicly.

    Yes i have played football.

    Stepping over the footy and then choosing to bump you take that chance. This year the head is a no go zone..

    Had he went for the ball at any stage i think he has a case, but that was not the case!

    It was an afterthought to grab the ball after he flushed him.

    Take the week and move on.

    Absolutely! His technique is almost perfect....Much better than Rozee's, which certainly contributed to him getting hurt.

    If you step over the ball though then hit someone without actually going for the ball...You are rolling the dice.

    Must have watched it about 50 times now and i still don't think he actually goes for the ball at any stage...he knew where the ball and Rozee was, he stepped over the ball turns his hips for impact then the ball drops at his feet. 

    Sure he did a lot right to try and win that contest, but he did enough wrong to earn a week. 

    You gotta go for the ball.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
