Is this the same Justin Gleeson who was previously the Australian Government Solicitor-General before the current S. Donoghue?

We may have our Appeal Ground right here if needed.

This Gleeson is a bit of  buffoon surely. Ignoring the rules....making it up on the fly.

Passed the bar... certainly not the Mitre i suspect.....

No Jeff Gleeson.

Naaah, it's Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets. He's a blues supporter

The problem is that the law is all about black letter law

Nuance is not something it does well

I'm back to rewatching Ballers

Why was the contact deemed as medium when Rozee got straight up, got 8 coaches votes, and ended up kicking the winning goal?

He didn’t seem too inconvenienced by the incident.

The fact he didn't even have to go and have a concussion test either

No but he stayed down long enough to make it look worse than it was trying to draw a free.!!!

I feel like we put up a really good argument here, better than the JvR one so I (a super qualified AFL law interpreter) expect us not to get off

Yeah, there's a lot of players starting to pull this stunt more often.
Beginning to look a lot like men's soccer which is just what the AFL want

He lost

Not challenging  ??

Wouldn't mind another appeal depending on the reasoning for why he got the suspension up held, I feel like most people are in agreement that he was in the right which is a good guide to how successful it maybe.

Of course it has been upheld. AFL don't want to be shown up again. They need to come out and explain what a player is supposed to do in Hunter's position. They won't because as Hunter argued the only way to avoid contact was to move out the way and let rozee get the ball . Which is right and against the fundamentals of the game. Just rediculous a punch to the guts is ok but this is not

What are the reasons?

Was it he should have moved out of the way in a split second to allow uncontested possession?

Thursday night then?

Given its only a week, I think we'll cop it on the chin. It's BS, but that's AFL

Push back MFC..   push hard

That's silly, he should have never been in that situation, if he had just played like our mids did for most of the night (almost non existent) then Rozee would have been fine :/

Exactly Red.

Is there / will there be,  a detailed statement of the ruling?

I really really really hate the AFL.
It’s a good thing Melbourne is competitive right now or I would seriously consider walking away. It’s becoming increasingly more difficult to enjoy.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?
