Nice pivot d3165 but they didn't take more marks which is what the discussion was about. Have a good night.

One did take more maks than brown.

As great as bang, bang, bang was and what followed, it really has messed with some peoples minds on expectation. Not going to be rosy all the time ffs, we will work on what we did wrong and carry on. Some of the comments about the players are just ridiculous.

Take the 4 points a run.

Not a good looking game,  this is twice now we have had talls hurting us and Petty is up forward doing nothing.

Think we have to bring Brown in.  And go back to our 3 talls in defence.  I'm not sure why we're not.  And why Petty wasn't moved to Casboult or Chol is beyond me.

Was always a danger game to me and we got the 4 points so get on the plane back to Melb!

Just got home from the ground, was a cracking game live, we owned them at the start of each quarter and the suns in the end of each quarter.  Agree with everyone, Petty needs to stay back, was ineffective forward.

we aren’t playing our best and still winning

GC can’t play any better then that

4 points

have a great night everyone, I need a scotch after that game….

Oliver is one of the best players this club has ever had. He is probably the best contested possession player in the club’s history.

Arguably the best ever full stop.

And I don't say that lightly.

Well at least we're back on song. Two things. One, when you said two smaller players I'm assuming your not counting Fritta because he's not seen as a small, yes even though he's shorter than bbb. Two, average of goals by games played? If I'm wrong I'd be happy to know.

As for the game itself, I haven't been able to watch it all so I can't comment as well as others, but my random thoughts are:

  1. It's time to end the Petty forward experiment. It's not working. He's not as good as a forward as some people think. He's a much better defender and our overall team structure needs a third tall.
  2. We can't rely on super accurate goal-kicking every week, so we have to expect to regress to the mean a bit. In that respect, holding on despite going 2.6 in the fourth quarter is important I reckon.
  3. We're missing Salem more than I thought we would.
  4. We're missing Hibberd more than I thought we would.
  5. The media beat-up over the JVR incident is pathetic. That's not a reportable offence. If he gets weeks for that, the game is cooked.

Good post, mate.

Unlike some I'm rapt with the performance.  Playing like that the Suns will beat most up there.

You can tell the Suns had really set themselves for this game and I reckon it was one of their best ever performances.

We never let them get in front.  They drew level but never got ahead.  That was significant.

Anderson was best on ground.  At 3/4 time I wanted Harmes to be subbed on to tag him.  He came on but didn't tag him.  Anderson was dominating but we just let him run free.  I still don't understand why we didn't send Harmes to him.

But I'm happy to bag the points and move on.

It's easy to forget Geelong won 5 and lost 4 in their first 9 games last year.  I'm happy with how we're building.

Fritta yes, ok do you count him as medium, but doesn't play as a taller player.

I don't even know what we are talking about but I think I once read that 9 out 10 people who back up their arguments with statistics are totally wrong at least 99% of the time.

And what is BBB going to do, had trouble last year, our forward line is dysfunctional, they expect a kid to be a big time pack mark, ain't gonna happen yet, as I said earlier maybe we are like the dogs snaged a great premiership and will continue to make finals and that's it, (hope not).

Gee mate each week its all doom and gloom with you. The last time I checked, we are on top of the ladder, and that's with Goody doing a lot of experimenting including modifying the gameplan. We have had some impressive wins this season, and it can be argued that our two losses can be attributed to extenuating circumstances. I shudder to think what you would have been like if you were a Geelong fan after round three.

The combination of Turner in and Petty forward totally ruined the balance of the team.

When Goodwin tries to get cute bad things tend to happen.

Oh I thought he was too rigid, my bad this week he's too cute 🤦‍♂️

Anderson was best on ground.

Just listened to dew's presser.

I'd suggest he'd agree with all these points.

Was at pains to say how well they played and how highly he rates us.

And was effusive about Anderson, noting that in addition to his crazy numbers people might not notice how much work he does off the ball.

They will beat ANY opponent up there if they bring that contest and heat.

Their contested ball game plan is perfectly suited for the slippery condition they so often play in at home.

I never said that todays form is the form we will have in September. I’m saying that currently we are miles off the mark on the key indicators that win you flags; defense and CPs.
It’s nice to kick big scores, but grand finals are rarely won in a shootout.
Nothing wrong with winning close games and banking the wins, but if you’re not improving you’re going backwards and it would be foolish not to look at the glaring issues we’ve shown all year.

In my opinion we haven’t yet beaten any really good opposition. Sydney and Dogs are just ok. Brisbane killed us and we got very lucky against the Suns. And outside of that we’ve beaten 3 sides destined for a bottom 4-6 finish

What concerns me most is that we haven’t beaten anyone above us on the ladder 🙃

Almost lost it at selection. As soon as Dew named Casboult it was clear we would have to make a late change to bring in another tall. The most obvious choice was probably bringing back Schache or BBB and send Petty back, but instead Goody has the bright idea of bringing in a second gamer who was overwhelmed. Petty ain’t a forward. He has no forward craft and when he does mark up the ground, he’s not a good enough kick inside fifty. At least Schache has a good leg on him in that regard.

I actually didn’t think May was that bad. He kept King basically statless but he did let Chol take a couple of grabs when he was on him. My biggest take out from the game is that Petty needs to go back. The experiment is over. It should just be Schache, BBB and Tmac competing for that one spot. Also, the Suns are a good side. Wouldn’t be surprised if they make finals.

For those saying we were lucky with the umps in the last qtr, maybe so, but geez we blew some chances. Fritsch missed two regulation shots and Trac completely burnt Grundy in the last few mins.

See mate I look at the whole picture not the corner, we got dismantled by the bombers and Brisbane, and why did that happen? So give me an answer, on how has he modified the gameplan, I'm interested.

Very hard to compare players of different generations and I loved Robbie, my favourite player by a mile and a friend.

That is why I chose my words about Clarry carefully.

Brisbane at the gabba is the hardest test in football ATM and we lost gawn in the first ten minutes. No face lost there.

Bombers loss was disappointing but even then we had our chances and they had the pies on ice a week later before running out of gas.

If Collingwood won that game against GC like we did tonight, everyone out there would be continuing to marvel at how they manage to grind games out.

I’m happy with the win. Gold Coast are no joke.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
