sue 9,277 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 What's the definition of hit out to advantage? If it is hit directly to a player who is sure to be tackled instantly I wouldn't consider that to be an advantage (except when a team is trying to ice the clock). 2 Quote

You would assume it would have to result in a meaningful possession to count. 3 Quote

It appears to be a fanciful stat for the sake of having a stat to valorise ruckmen when actually it's down to the efficiency of mids getting the ball forward to a team mate on the outside Edited May 3, 2023 by IRW 1 1 Quote

Once again, Demonland comes to the rescue of the English language. "Latter" should only be used to refer to the second of two options. The correct word to use when there are three or more would be "last". You're welcome. 6 2 2 4 Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,326 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Gawn’s tap to Trac for a goal in the third quarter against North was as hitout to advantage as you’ll get. 2 Quote

tiers 2,883 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 How about a hit out to the oppo's advantage? They have learned how to shark Maxie's hit outs better than us. A better definition would be a hit out that, even if not to a team mate, does not allow the oppos to have an opportunity for a clear disposal. 3 Quote

Yeah "Net Hit Outs to Advantage" is a much better stat (ie how many more hit outs to advantage than hit outs to disadvantage). 1 Quote
david_neitz_is_my_dad 4,084 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I'm not surprised that Max isn't high on the list for hitouts that actually go to our mids Quote

leave it to deever 17,621 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 This is an aspect of Grundy 's game that is very noticeable when watching. He's done well to work with his teammates in a short period of time. 1 Quote
BDA 23,048 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 (edited) Grundy is a quality ruckman. He has max covered from a ruck perspective. Of course max is brilliant around the ground and there’s no better contested mark in the league. Edited May 3, 2023 by BDA 2 Quote

layzie 34,528 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 This doesn't surprise me, when Grundy wins a clean hitout it's usually to a mid our at least into space that give a mid the best chance to get it. 2 Quote
MrFreeze 2,055 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Max and Tim English provide much more than hit outs to advantage. IMO a rucks around the ground work is way more important these days. 2 Quote

Not to mention his insane work rate for a guy his size. Teams have spent years trying to feed off his tap work, so it's little wonder that it's no longer as advantageous to us as it once was. 2 Quote
