So here's a question

How can a player be seen as a player who often turns the ball over yet at the same time somehow has an elite Disposal Efficiency rating?

That's Brayshaw

Rarely gets votes in the 'land award.  Barely gets mentioned unless he plays an outstanding game

Is it because he came 3rd in the Brownlow and now gets measured against that outlier season? 

I mean I wouldn't have had him 3rd in the Brownlow that year but I don't hold it against him

Just a spirited debate about the value of certain individuals

To me, these discussions online take the place of pubtalk ... as an example I was with a group of Demons watching the Essendon game at the local

Eventually the umpires copped the ire and I argued against that appraisal.  It was a spirited argument but then quickly forgotten once it was obvious that we got outplayed

Blinkered & triggered?  I've seen you speak in exactly the same way about any number of players over the years

You should be on my side as most of the needless arguments on this site are caused by the unfair criticisms of 1 or 2 players (often when the whole team has been at fault)

In effect, I'm hosing down the fire and pulling people into line.  Takes a while but it does work

I thought the first half was about the perfect balance last night. Forwards were getting deep and opening up space. Mids and backs were running and then using the half forwards and corridor.

Tracc, Nibbler, Pickett and Chandler were all buzzing up around half forward and getting it to leading targets.

Well I see things differently, forget last night unfortunately north are uncompetitive from the get go, then they ended up 3 injured and only two on the bench, but you can only play who you are up against.

You have to ask yourself how are we going to go against the top sides regarding our forward structure, and if we keep just bombing it we are going to find it hard to score against these sides, I would not mind it if we had a Curnow, Cameron etc but we don't and good sides know that.

Anyone looking at the replay you will see players calling for the kick into the centre with no one around but players don't even look, we should have players leading and dragging their opponents away from the bigger guys to give them a chance to impact.

Rounds 10, 12, 13, 15 will give us a guide to our seasonand with a bit of luck staying in the top 4.

And my aim is not to change DS's mind on Brayshaw.  It's more so those who aren't sure on his value that I'm looking at

So going against a could-be tide is about influencing others to step-up.  Not necessarily the person you might be arguing with

Down the track, Brayshaw could well be not maligned at all. 

But there will be another player to take his place no doubt.  That's how things roll

If we cared about winning by 100 or more we wouldn’t have subbed out Hibbo or had May on the bench for long periods in the last. Or start Oliver on the bench in both the third and fourth quarters (has that ever been done?!). 
We cared about winning and protecting our players after a grueling 5 day break and before yet another interstate trip. 
It was clearly the plan to come out hard in the first and ice the game by half time. After half time we saw a heap of midfield rotations. Trac spent a long time forward, Clarry was on the bench heaps. They rotated both wings and we saw some different midfield combos. 
When it’s round 7 you don’t take unnecessary risks when the game is already done and dusted.

I care more about getting out of the game with a clean bill of health than May doing a hamstring with 5 minutes to go trying to stop a goal in a 90 point demolition.

I think you may be ignoring the fact that North chose to hold onto the ball for longer and chip it around. ie keepings off. They weren't able to maintain possession for long periods though but it did slow us down.

As Trac said after the game it's about standards and behaviours and reinforcing good habits. Mooney and Brereton both said after the game our list should have at least 1 and probably 2 more flags in it and Mooney said Petracca had made similar comments to him at the Fox Footy launch earlier in the year (they know we have the list and the time to win is now). So it comes with the territory, you have these ultra competitors they never want to give an inch. It's like the stories about Barassi as a player, he hated losing whether it be on the field or playing table tennis with teammates in the change rooms. May hates losing and that means losing a contest not just a game - so conceding three goals in a row to get the margin under 100 would've annoyed him which I think is a great mentality for a pro footballer to have.

Bit sore and bothered from playing local footy so to be able to sit back last night and the heart rate not rise one bit was refreshing. 

I certainly did not expect this kind of performance off the back of a 5 day break. We were so ruthless on our attack on the footy that we kept at it for 4 full quarters.

Not one bit bothered they kicked 3 goals in the end. Any 90 point win against a Alistair Clarkson side is impressive enough. I'm sure Goody and the coaches will have their say on that internally. 

Huge clash next week against the Suns at their home ground. Another 4 quarters boys.

of course you can. he is in his 8th season. this was big chance in a drubbing and he still didn’t show any presence. he should have been throwing his body around and getting into everything.

we can’t carry a kid like JVR and Schache in the same forward line. 

Not only that, but for JVR's development I think we need another mature key forward to take the heat off him be it Brown or McDonald.

This is the level of performance I want to see against the Suns, Hawks and Freo over the next month. Not saying we have to win by 15 goals plus but we should be putting these sides away early and giving us plenty of junktime late in games to keep our legs fresh.

Not sure when (if ever) I've seen numbers that low for either of them, they're normally both mid/high 80s.

Brayshaw's 20-40 metre passes in defensive 50 are as safe as anyone back there right now. I don't quite get the mixed reviews either.

North actually played reasonable football in the last three quarters: they have some good young players. Despite their ability to win the ball, their forward line was obliterated by our boys, and there are weaknesses in their back half. It does worry me that both Schache and Van R hardly touched the ball. I loved Chandler, Neale Bullen, Sparrow and Rivers and Bowey, not to mention the relatively consistent contributions of Pickett and Fritsch.

Monday night was a hard tough slog and we finally over tun the Tiges in front of 84k people. Last night after a five day break it was a demolition derby driven by Tracc, Clarry, Gus, Chandler, Kozzie, Fritta, Grundy, Max, Steven and all members of the team. My pulse remained steady even more relaxed than the trip in and out to the G with 6 adults and grandson crammed into the Everest. The only disappointment was the size of the crowd 29k which meant a whole lot of Dee supporters missed out on the Drubbing first hand. Dees were switched on from first bounce until 25 minute mark of the final quarter and Kade Chandler showed us that he is the real deal and he also won the 65” TVfrom Ch7. The trip home was a happy one as well. Well played Dees.!!!!

I've said my bit and it's time to chat about how we're going to beat the Pies & Cats.  We're going to have to beat both to get where we want to get to.  To me they are the 2 standouts

Saints, Port, Crows and Blues aren't going to be easy either.  And the Lions

Bank the next 2 with some ruthless footy and then it gets hard ... at Port, Freo at home is a must win, then Blues, Pies & Cats.  After that the Giants & Saints

We need to be fresh for the latter encounters too so some tweaking with the line-ups over the next 2 is important.  Sooner or later the legs start to feel it (although 3 x 10 day breaks is handy) 

But hey, it's one week at a time.  Always remember that!

Off a 5-day break with a few players missing (Petty, Spargo, Salem) we played clinical football against an admittedly at times pathetic opponent. A percentage boost and (hopefully) no injuries.

Loved Chandler’s game and again the work of our wingers was important. Grundy’s marking is no good but when be gets going in clearance and transition he makes us so good. Tonight felt like he rucked heaps more than Gawn, perhaps a fitness thing for Gawn?

Not sure Schache did enough to hold his spot. 22 goals with the two tall forwards kicking just 2 total shows that we have many pathways to goal.

Like others I’m disappointed in the crowd but I wasn’t able to go tonight for personal reasons so can’t point the finger. But we really need to be pulling 30,000 of our own to all our MCG home games. I maintain that our fanbase don’t like night games (outside of ANZAC Eve). 

People have better things to do than football every single week. I love the dees, but I'm not spending EVERY weekend night i have going to the footy.
