I too was looking forward to the development of Colin Sylvia however I now believe after seeing his performances recently he just simply does not have what it takes to be an elite player in the comp. He goes missing for large parts of games, is undisciplined and now seemed to struggle to kick a goal from 50m. Very disappointing from such a high draft pick, I will get flamed for saying this and people will blame injuries etc but he just does not look like he can handle it at AFL level.

PS also has zero awarness when in the foward line (getting in peoples way etc).

Please prove me wrong Colin but at this stage it's just happening for ya.

I actually thought Sylvia's game was a massive improvement on previous weeks.

Don't be too harsh on him, it's unfair to single him out for poor finishing when the whole team was culpable today.

Posted

Very harsh. Much improved game from Col today. If he'd dobbed those 2 goals, we would have been singing his praises. I thought he was pretty good. Too many people expect him to step up and win a Brownlow straight away. He hasn't strung together 10 games yet, you gotta give him time. He'll be a star.

Posted

Agreed, very very harsh.

He did well today, and I like him at CHF/HFF. It gives him the ability to push into the midfield, as well as kick goals. His shots on goal today let him down, but apart from that, he was strong and aggressive.

Give him a break, he's had no pre-season and in an ideal world he would still be gaining fitness in the VFL.

I think there has been a marked improvement on last year. He has much better awareness and maturity. I hope his groin grief is overcome so we can see if he is midfield material

very good point. i didnt think he was the worst today. he seems to just go...needs to step up a gear. burst some makes, make a contest. then again, if he'd kicked two today he wouldve had a great game...

Colins best football is yet to come, Once he can string a large number of games together without injury, he will improve and start to show his potential

Posted

Sylvia is hard at it, can get hos own contested ball, is strong overhead, runs to the right spots and is a good kick.

His ongoing OP is a concern but I thought his game today was encouraging.

Posted

Sylvia is not as good as we all hoped for, but hopefully he can improve his game to be a consistent valuable contributer to our team over the next ten years.

Posted

He has the ability to become a star, all he needs is time and he will learn through experience, the player i can see him developing into is chapman, from geelong. Chapman is a very good player and hard at it, i could easily see sylvia resolving his game around his, but who knows what will happen we just have to wait and see

Posted

Col was good today, at least he hits targets with his disposals, not like some of our more senior better players. Col will only improve once he can spend more time in the midfield. He doesn't struggle to kick 50m, he missed 2 shots today which he had to kick from outside 50m, distance no problem just wasn't straight.

Posted

Col had a great game but if he struggles to kick 50 metres mabey the forward line isnt where he should play. just a thought

Posted

if he can stay on the park its all up for col, he made the distance well just not the accuracy but he has only played 3 games this year after misssing so much, give him time

Posted

I doubt that sylvia is 100% fit and he's certainly not on his own there! Playing forward would be less taxing than playing on HBF or in the midfield where he would be playing if fit. Still need to work out our forward line as the players have not all played there together before.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
