I felt he was disengaged somewhat at Roo's debut announcement and was disappointed not to see him at R3 supporting the team (was interstate?).

I hope we are offering flexibility in his contract and would be happy for another 2 years, and then wish him well should he decide to leave, rather than only offer a long term contract. 

His mood is likely reflective of a person trying to please everyone but knowing someone will end up disappointed. My thoughts are he will go, but ... 🙏

Easily in our top 5 based on averages so far this season.  Roughly equal 4th with Reg Grundee.

I wasn’t at all referring to his performance. I noticed his overall demeanour was different. He didn’t seem as exuberant as usual. And it’s not that I was looking out for it, I’d forgotten about the whole will he or won’t he thing. It struck me early in the match and continued on that way. 

@Demon Dynasty Yeah so yourself and a few others missed the original point I made. 

To quote myself in previous post

And he has been all season in the games he played.

The point myself and others have noted is that while he played a fantastic game, he didn't look himself emotionally. We're used to a more charismatic Kozzy on field that smiles and gets pumped up. He looked flat and not as engaged with teammates which is odd for him.

It would definitely be a huge disappointment to lose both Jackson and Kozzy. I don't think the club is at fault, I am sure you they have given both all the support and care that you'd expect for these young guns.

Makes you wonder why would you leave such a great situation at the Dees?

Agree WCW my wife mentioned his  demeanour several times during the game so watched him closely during the replay he certainly didn’t ooze his usual exuberance hopefully just a little off.!!!

I'm not sure that the back of the padding is the goal line after reading the rules. My understanding is the goal line is a vertical plane above the goal line on the ground. The padding is considered part of the post if hit by the ball.

just look at the photos at ground level. the back of the white painted line is exactly in line with the back of the padding on the posts.

it may not be explicitly defined in the written rules but that is where they have drawn and adjudicated it.

we could argue till the cows come home as whether this the fairest solution or not, but the decision has been made. which ever way you choose creates its own problems 

the afl should update their written rules and try to educate the public better. but i suspect the afl likes controversy more than education because that means more clicks

Well that's the only reason a so-called professional sport would be so lax as the AFL without defining the rules clearly without grey areas and endless interpretations.  As for educating  the public, finding the actual rules on the AFL website over the years has been a good way to spend a rainy afternoon.

I know a sport where the rules were apparently written by a team of lawyers with lots of  "Notwithstanding Rule 23.5 subsection 3, the ball must"..... etc which requires a law degree to understand.  But there are accompanying documents which explain what it means in various cases and no one has a problem.  And there are no grey areas. No clicks to be garnered there I guess.

So DC that creates more problems. In that scenario the goal line is behind the back of the post. Perhaps padding should go all the way to the top!

i said there were probs either way

i think they just take the padding essentially as high as someone's jumping hands could reach, so no-one could touch the ball above the padding.

there's no doubt that if the game was played without padding that it would have been a goal, but that's going back in a time machine.

just accept that it's a compromise rule and not perfect and move on

I'm more than happy to move on about this particular goal (though I'm not sure how happy I'd be if we lost a GF that way).  But it will take me a while to move on from the fact our game the AFL runs appears to be run by a bunch of money-focussed suits who can't manage to write clear rules covering such basic issues.  If they did, we'd have no reason to have 50 posts on this issue
