5 years to the week that we beat North and broke that hoodoo, time to do it again.

And the week before we broke the North hoodoo (round 3 2018) we played Brisbane at the Gabba at night (round 2 2018)

All the planets are aligning.....

Yep, there it is everyone. A sign!

Their fans have every right to be confident, even cocky.

A big test for us - but one i'm confident we'll pass.

I'll be looking for super high pressure on every Swan player who is about to kick the football, swarming all team defence, and really going hard at contests.

I'll also be looking for us to be daring and fast with our ball movement.

If we see all things, which i think we will, we win.

We'll know 10 minutes in  i reckon.

The Swans had the opposite season to us last year, first half was average, losing to the likes of Gold Coast and Port

then came home with 9-1 in the last 10 rounds

so important to be fit and in form at the right time

Pressure, pressure and more pressure. Take risks with the ball movement, if they score on us who cares just bring the pressure and go again.

I've been tried to remind myself of this every second that I've thought about footy this week. It's a long season.

Giving them credit.

While looking for updates I came across this banter:

  • Removing myself from the desire to absolutely thrash Melbourne this week for a moment, congratulations to Clayton Oliver, who is playing game 150 this weekend. Very few players can say they're a great of the game before they've even played their 150th game. One of my favourite non-Swans and an absolute freak. Hope it's a shocker for him.
  • Hopefully spends most of the game chasing our mids.
  • For me he is just about the best player in the game. An absolute monster in the contest and nearly impossible to stop.
  • Love the match up in this game.. the two current "kings" of the mids in oliver and tracc vs imo the fastest rising stars of the mids in the game in errol and chad
  • IMO he would be the best player in the game, and the only challenger would be his own teammate in Gawn. I suppose over the next 4-6 weeks we'll now find out how much one has to do with the other.

Not often Oliver gets praise from opp fans.  Good to see some Sydney fans honour him for his 150th.

But now that I've given them credit, i hope he burns their midfield, has his best game ever and leads us to victory.  Couldn't be a better way to celebrate his 150th than against a team that has the wood over us.

Wow, when have we ever praised an opposition player for a milestone! 😛

Very confident for a team that only made a grand final because we had injuries and niggles coming our our ears and the umpires let Papley do what he likes in a Prelim.

I reckon we've got their measure even without Gawn

based on what ? they've beaten us 4 out of last 5 games.

Can't wait to read this suddenly juicy thread.

And align they did!

“Little worrying that if we are to be a top side you probably should’ve be getting touch ups on the big stage. We are spooked I reckon and could be some mental scars.

They had no Gawn and Pickett also . Pretty embarrassing”

Their pain is real after quite a lot of confidence leading up to the match and probably justifiably so.

I hope they choked on their prawn sandwiches whilst watching their Bloods get fisted.

A post from late last week!!

That didn’t age well 🙃

Post Game, Thread Title: Done by the Demons by 50 points

They were quite gracious.  Not sure where the smart alecs in the preview thread are hiding.  Quite fair commentary of their performance with little maligning of their players.

  • First quarter Melbourne rebounded out the fat side at will with pace and were happy to concede clearance. Hit up the right targets and refused to kick long. 5 goals up in a flash.
  • Well played Dees they were inspired and executed their instructions
  • Not alarm bells but ******* cranky that we lack the hard yakka
  • Better side won and deserved to win take nothing away
  • Not panic stations yet. We are a good side who had a bad day and unfortunately came up against a good side who were on fire today.
  • How often does a side get done after an easy win the week before? There's something about beating up on a weaker opponent that breeds complacency.
  • Melbourne seemed to disproportionately take their chances. Every time we had a tiny skill error, they made us pay.
  • Little worrying that if we are to be a top side you probably should’ve be getting touch ups on the big stage. We are spooked I reckon and could be some mental scars.
  • Our rucks have a nasty habit of getting involved in possession chains and it either slows us down or they stuff it up
  • They had no Gawn and Pickett also . Pretty embarrassing
  • Odd game, didn't feel like a 50 point battering but here we are.
  • Rolled over to at the end
  • I’m not sure they have the mental edge either...soft unit
  • Melbourne mids were back to their premiership best imo. Read the plays to perfection all day long.
  • Dunno how Brisbane beat them. It’s a funny game.  The Dees were so slick today.
  • First game back there and our first real test this year...Failed big time...Maybe not a top 4 team
  • Two players who I'm really disappointed in are Mills & Parker... While Oliver & Petracca had 15 & 16 disposals respectively by half time, Mills and Parker had 8 each.
  • To Melbourne's credit, they were amazing. They adapted to every single thing we tried to do. We won clearances, so they pressured to force our clearances into turnovers. We started getting our defensive 50 transition game going, so they set up to shut it down...
  • Heeney in the finals last year was pretty ordinary...Struggles a little with the main stage
  • Beaten up by a better team and 4 cheats
  • Omg those photos of Horse spraying Heeney at 3QT. **** me
  • Anyone who thinks we are a realistic chance at a premiership is kidding themselves. We were found out today just like in GF and again let down by poor coaching.
  • How we were not primed for today, after 2 soft kills, is nothing short of poor preparation but the coach, and not for the first time.
  • Broke our back in the last. 11 goals is insane, pretty much only them and Collingwood could do that much damage in a last quarter.
  • I sometimes wonder why I follow footy, a loss is always so deflating haha.
  • Even when we got thumped in the grand final they never kick more than 6 in a quarter. 11 blows the game out of proportion.

My Favourites:

Several contenders

  • After witnessing the Port autopsy thread, I’ve come to appreciate what a measured, philosophical bunch we are in responding to loss.
  • I think I'll go and watch a murder documentary because I definitely want to commit one after that lol

Edited by Lucifers Hero

With the exception of guys like Buddy, Josh Kennedy and Adam Goodes the Swans are constantly rolling academy players through their side with the result that they are perpetually good but rarely stellar. I think they will definitely be in and around the top four again this year but won't quite make it to the big dance this time.

4 cheats = 4 umpires.  Clearly a one-sided view of the umpiring.

Even Longmire commented in his post game press conf that we got 2 goals from 50m and 3 from free kicks. Paraphrasing:  "Handed them 5 goals on a platter".  I thought poor form on his part even to mention that and also to not acknowledge how many they got and some of theirs were very dubious!

Sour grapes!

That's why I was confused, they were getting everything and all dubious.

Nah we got given some too.

People who say umpires don't influence games have NFI.

In the 2nd and early 3rd when they were coming, the free kick count was disproportionately in their favour and they were getting some really questionable ones. In the first and last, we got quite a few very impactful and questionable frees.

When they're given consecutively it does really change the momentum of games. If you get 3-5 in a row it's as if you won 3-5 key one on one contests - like a hard ball in a pack, a contested mark i50, or a 1v1 win in D50.

It's not the reason we won or the reason they lost, but it does have an influence.

Interesting. I heard that more as disappointment with their lack of discipline giving those away, but either way I'm delighted we're provoking those responses.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
