Redundant communist era propaganda from the brain’s trust at the Footscray Soviet.

Demons we are not intimidated by the bully boys from out west. Throw this puerile nonsense back over the Maribyrnong. The taller the monolithic facade the greater the fall.

I actually think that's quite clever with his foot on the ball. reminded me of one of one of our beautiful bull mastiffs.

We have coach replacements from Gisborne. If i leave at 4:30PM and then walk from Southern Cross station, I should arrive at 3 quarter time.

Perfect. Just in time to sing the song and start the trek back home in time for work on Monday.

Well that would be underwhelming, surely it could have more than last year's R1 (it was a Wednesday night).

average home and away crowd between these two sides is sub 30k

last year was almost double that after a premiership, and i'd say 85% mfc fans

footscray have a tiny supporter base and their record of crowds at the mcg indicates their fans don't attend there

Will get a few more tonight with Dees losing 4 players it evens the odds.

Should be an intense close game.

Crowd?  45- 50k tops. Bulldogs have a small following.

Player to watch.. Kosi.

Lets see what all this media hype was about.

I think we can cover Viney and Fritsch and I'm not sure Salem is best 22 after last years performances but May is a massive loss. Have no faith in Tomlinson hoping to be proven wrong and happy to give an apology after the game if he does his job.

Exactly, CF! There mightn’t be as many of us there tonight as we’d like, but those who do attend will more than make up for it since we have indisputably the most passionate supporters of all clubs. It’s a fact! even if based on nothing other than coz I said so. 😆

Not sure we can cover our best goal kicking player, unless BBB goes back to his best

I think Chandler can play a bit if he kicks one of two goals he's done his job. We easily accounted for Richmond without Fritsch.

Yes that's a big concern for me too.  Jamara made a mess of him last time

Wish I could be there tonight, hopefully the Demons get off to a great start of the season. If we lose its not the end of the world but still, I'd like to win.

Go Demons!

Not sure if this is for Melbourne? BOM says only a 5% chance of rain tonight.

The app I use reckons no rain tonight. Draws on BOM data but interprets it differently (not so conservative as BOM) and in my opinion is far more realistic and representative of what we are in for. GO DEES!

I love the optimism some of you have. The 4 outs are too important players. No side in the AFL can cover such losses. My MFCSS is spiralling around the milky way atm. I see a 5 goal loss. Hope I am wrong.

Yeah, nah I think you are wrong……(I hope)!

AFL and TV exec's will be drinking champagne after the first two nights of R1  175000.

They'll come back down to earth will a dull thud by late tonight.   Grimsby Port all round!

Go Dees. Tomlinson better stand up otherwise we're cactus.

A bit like our experiment with Gawn and Grundy

I reckon the notion that it’s a significant experiment is grossly overstated. How is it so different to the Gawn/Jackson combo?

Sure.

But i'll take an experiment involving two AA rucks sharing ruck and forward duties (as vipercrunch notes, not far away the same set up as Jackson/Gawn - the only difference would appear to be Max will play forward more often) over:

  • four key talls in the forward line
  • with one being second year bean pole
  • another an inconsistent blow in like blobb
  • and a third player in UH who has undeniable talent but like Lobb goes missing.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
