You come in with question marks on your competitiveness and put up a 0 touch game you’re now a dud pick until proven otherwise. I hope he can turn it around but the very early call is not good.

If you keep taking picks in the teens to build your list you run the risk of a string of misses. That’s how North ended up with such a gap in their list to begin with. The Durdin and Garners of the world.

Look out, lads! Hot Takes over here thinks that early picks are better than later picks. Absolute edgelord.

With dud comments like that, you stay a dud commentator until proven otherwise. 🧐🤨🤔🤔

Not at all the purpose of my post.

If you could comprehend I was saying that North’s crazy assistance package has harmed our ability to trade up. (As did their incompetence in having to trade JHF last year).

We have the picks and the desire to go up. Teams are willing to move back. Yet by all reports North will offer their freebies.

Were we incompetent for having to trade Jackson last year? Go home factor was the reason in both cases. And by your reckoning the AFL gifted us 2 first round picks.

Your takes on North and GC are illogical.

Jackson was out of contract after 3 years. JHF was gone after 1 because North mismanaged everything about him then gave him away whilst contracted. Clarko didn’t even bother trying to help him stay.

We got priority picks under the old system and turned them in to a pile of nothing. Shout out to Trenners and Strauss, hope they are well. They weren’t of any use by 2014.

Under the new rules priority picks have been very hard to come by. We got none. Brisbane got one token one. St Kilda - the unlucky and awful mess in the early 10’s got none. Carlton got nothing more than a couple of state leaguers.

Gold Coast got a stupid amount, I was fine with them getting some to make up for their shocking list build, but the AFL gave them a truckload due to the AFL’s own and Suns ongoing incompetence.

North at best deserved one last year as Brisbane did at the height of their issues. Somehow 1 morphed in to 4 despite North being far better placed now than 12 months ago.

My issue with a future first is if we don't get a key forward this year and say GC King is available, we won't have the 2x first rounders likely needed to land him. But club likely knows what it's doing (just like the "forward" thinking approach).

I have heard that WC might be after our pick 5.

Presumably they think Curtain will be available there.

Would we be willing to trade it for their future first plus something, and use 13 and an early second to get 10 from GC or 7 from Geelong?

Yep, that seems to be the case.  I think it would be a straight swap for their future 1st round.  In fairness that would more than likely be a top 3 pick.

Nth don’t rate Curtin and Dogs won’t take another tall.

5 becomes 6 or 7 with academy picks. It's still a bit of a gamble to assume WC are as bad next year as they were this year. Some more luck with injuries and 11 games at Optus...

6 for eagles future first and 22?

Trade our future first and significant change for pick 11. Go the draft with 11, 14, 22.

Hope we can get a truly special player in the top 5 with the Eagles pick next year?

Don’t love the idea, but there are some really high quality mids in next years draft.

I'd be going for Reid if they're interested in our 5. Upgrade 13 to say 7, offer 5 and 7 for 1.

Wait, what? Try to maintain a consistent strategy for at least half a day will ya!

Dodo asking for a 1st rd pick  for Zerk Thatcher is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. The bloke is a [censored]

We are not getting that.  There is no chance of 22 on top of that.   WC Will be bottom 4 next year

Feel like we are creating a trade for trades sake.

We need talent now, I am already bemused by us pushing out our seasoned bodies without replacement upgrades and we then are proposing to push high draft picks further into future.

I have been a big advocate on our list management for the last 5 years or so, but something isn’t quite right this year.

Did we get our salary cap structure wrong?

Read the next line about the Eagles future pick? Would be a risk, but that would be our pathway to a special pick

It costs a premium to move a pick forward a year.

If the Eagles value Curtin as high as their future pick and want to advance a year they need to pay a lot for it.

Doesn’t take much to improve from last to 5th last if things fall a certain way. Odds are bottom 4, but it’s not a lock.

The years where we moved picks forward or up very high (Oliver, Pickett) we added a second rounder to go up.

If they get Reid and Curtin, it could potentially set them up for a decade

You want us to offer Schultz a 5 year deal?

It’s 2 days into the trade period, take a chill pill.  It doesn’t start to heat up until the last few days

I guess we will all have to wait and see. I cannot see the club telegraphing what their plans are. But rest assured, there are plans afoot. Have patience and a little trust.

We do drafting a lot better than we do finals.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
