Membership cracks the 27,000 mark

Terrific to see the MCC members taking advantage of the new intiative whereby they must only pay a trivial amount to become a recognised member of the footy club. I have no doubt that we will see the Demons reach 30,000 members by the end of the next year.

A big congratulations to the Membership department at the MFC is in order.

I agree, it's fantastic, and I hope that this generation of new members maintain a commitment to the club through thick and thin.

Hmm, we can only hope ...

Mid Rocks, do you know how many members from last year have not re-signed. Attracting new members is all well and good but they must also be retained.

27,000 sounds great but!

Posted

And how many of those 27K will turn up on Sunday.

I'd say less than half.

12,000 members

2,000 non-members

300 neutral

2,000 Port fans

16,300 is my tip for the crowd on V Port.

awesome bbp...you managed to get double the post value for the last post! love the copy and past lol

the numbers are good. i dont think bums on seats is as important as member numbers when it comes to a lot of things corporate. every member gets sponsorship material directed to their home, which they read. plus the money generated from mcc members is pure profit as they don't pay match entry fees.

exciting times we have. we have ifnally got some stability of the field...now we need success on it..

Great news, at least we are making headway in the membership area.

Great effort by the membership department. Shows the gulf we have to deal with when Freo is at 43000.

we would have cracked 30,00 members if we were 3-2 or better...

if this continues (our poor form), look for membership to drop next year

So much for MFC fans all being fair-weather supporters :)

Fwiw, I wonder what this 27,000 equates to in terms of full memberships in $ terms. Great to have the MCC/MFC members but I imagine they're making out membership look pretty good while we're not actually getting as much $ as you'd expect for 27,000 members.

i would think that the normal cost of a member would only just cover the gate reciept of their ground entry. the money coming from an mcc member would be all profit as i understand that the mcc pays a certain amount per person through the gates towards gate reciepts.

if this isnt the case its no wonder we dont have any money! (can anyone clarify for me?)

Not so sure of that brey, if we do have a poor year we might end up with the best underaged talent and a great pickup in the pre-season draft, which can give a club some enthusiasm for next year.

That's a really great number, thanks for posting dees......

And I am with Finks in the hope that this new found membership support doesn't wane after this year.

Quite simply, it is great to see the club get this kind of support :D !!!

our numbers should be good for next year as we will either have a new number 1 draft choice (or near enough) or will have played a lot better in the second half of the year so the outlook wont seem as bleak as this

oh that and we will have chris judd playing for us, wikipedia told me :)

I wonder how many MCC members would have previously taken out a full membership for $150 and now scale down to the cheaper $50 option? Will need to sign up 3 times as many.....

i have no doubt that had we started off the way we should of (considering our fixture, we probably could have started 5-0) we would have 30,000+.

ps. deanox, great movie :P

That's great news, let's aim for 30,000 by years end. We need more committment from those that have not renewed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if this were the case clubs would effectively be getting nothing directly out of members (ignoring indirect benefits like a higher membership number helping to secure sponsors etc).

yeah i thought that was pretty much the case...think about it. how much do we charge for membership? now if the same person came and paid to get into every home game what is the cost? the reason the big clubs do so well is because they charge reserve seat prices which dont cost any more- its all profit. west coast and adelaide make heaps out of this. so would collingwood and essendon i assume. you're always guaranteed a seat at an mfc game so we don't get that revenue. the membership is guaranteed income. only 16,000 turned up to freo but we had 27,000 members pay for their tickets effectively. if we had 50,000 members and 25,000 turned up to a game along with 20,000 non members, the effective revenue would be 70,000. i know that is way over simplistic but we get that money whether they come or not.

higher membership numbers mean bigger exposure for sponsors through websites, magazines, at games etc. do a straw poll around the office and ask who everyone barracks for then see if they know who their major sponsor is. then see if they know melbournes sponsor. bigger supporter base, bigger advertising.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
