I always thought it was 'chips, wine and a pide loaf' in reference to random hangover leftovers. The whole song has a 'hangover and go again' vibe anyway.

But back to President Jeffo; I have taken a lot of comfort from your enthusiasm about him, not just because of the slithera-dodging dedicated observation but also recalling your profound exasperation of yesteryears when we drafted a whole string of very lightly built kids who collectively got shoved out of the way.

So when a lightly built and not especially mongrelly young tall gets a nod from PF, I reckon there's reason for optimism.

sounds right

something would've changed at selection meeting last night if there's no Jefferson debut video out today

They did talk about it in media conference though...maybe they're tricking us all because they know everyone is on Jeffo watch.

Yep and why would he debut when you have that great accumulator of goals in Petty who has kicked copious bags of goals totalling 6 this year! Yep just no need for an inform forward at present!

Just curious to know if you will bag him just like you are bagging Petty when Matthew finally gets a chance and gets 2 possessions and zero goals?

Not saying that will definitely happen but there's a fair chance and I'd hope that you then acknowledge that he has a long way to go, and your constant nauseating carry on for him to be selected was a bit premature

Are you saying you would rather continue to play an underperforming Petty to the blooding of a largely in form Jefferson? Also remembering yes he HAS a long way to go but, given form ( Remember that element ) Petty hasn't deserved a game as a forward all year! It isn't as much as bagging Petty as much as the continued stupidity of trying to make him into a forward which he just is not. Everyone knows this except our stubborn footy department and Coach! Just my opinion... of course! Petty is and was a very good defender, and Matt Jefferson in time will be an excellent forward, again just my opinion!

I like the fact we all have different opinions and challenge things - but it just gets a little tedious tbh when someone continues to endlessly and frankly pointlessly keep posting the same thing.

Good for you that you think he is ready - personally I don't but acknowledge that when the season is 100% dead in terms of finals then maybe he is given a taste. That way he can realize first-hand just how much work he has to do to play football in the AFL

I'm not being critical of the young man and genuinely hope he has a great career but having watched him in a lot of Casey games he is still a long way off - just my opinion!

You do realise you also have a bunch of posts on this page in opposition to Picket Fence?

Just saying...

That’s seriously disappointing from the coaching staff.

They had the chance to get some minutes into Jefferson

and the chance to look at our future with petty back and Jeffo forward

instead we’re back to Tomlinson and Petty forward. Yuck

Petty hasn’t been as bad as you make out and Jefferson will likely get a game once Port [censored] us.

Why not see what he's got? Imagine if he explodes onto the scene and kicks a bag in 3 games!! Wouldn't that then change our recruitment strategy/ thoughts? eg Jake Waterman. Agreed, small sample size but we have unearthed another key forward it could be a game changer.

that isnt happening. he doesnt have the intensity for afl level right now anyway. Jeffo will get a go in the 2nd last or last game. Looking forward to him getting 0 goals and everyone going crazy about him playing.

Jefferson gets selected. Doesn’t kick 10 goals on debut. Demonlanders call to trade him.

The trade being for Weid.

Now you are being redic Picket. Just let up and stop inciting others and wanting the argument.

Attention seeking behaviour me thinks.

Kate has been very silent.  She will back Goodwin until he decides it’s time to go.

Completely off topic, when is Pinstripe returning to the track?

Will have a jump out next week and hopefully racing by end of week.

If you are a horse follower I have Show Some Decorum Race 9 and Moonhaven Race 5 racing saturday at Moonee Valley.

Sorry to the non racehorse people and back to Jeffo, who I think will debut either against GC or Pies in the last game, just to give him a taste of senior football.

Very happy to take your money re no goals. His intensity at VFL level has come in leaps and bounds. Really hoping to see him in the last two weeks of the season.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
