Great for both these guys to get contracts....I hope neither play much senior football next year though as neither are the future.

If Goodwin is picking Melksham over Van Rooyen, Turner over Hibberd, we are majorly screwing over developing our list.

Goodwin is almost best mates with Melksham and seems to pick him at every opportunity.   Please don't do it again Simon, let them help develop some of our younger talent.

I doubt Turner can play Hibberd's role, can you see him going with Charlie Cameron?

Hibbo got torched in our last final vs Cameron.  Another year older i doubt he will be able to curtail any/many of the small dangerous forwards.

Rivers or Smith would be my pick.

I thought it was Smith that got turned inside out by Cameron in that final?

Anyone know the current situation with these two?

Currently uncontracted but yet there is no news on whether they have re-signed or not?

I thought the cut off date was last week but yet there are clubs still delisting players today.

Idk about Hibbo but I have it on very good authority that Melksy is definitely with us for 2023. And he knows this already.

I believe that was another game where Charlie kicked 5 on him during the regular season in 2021.  Not 100% on this though!

On that day i don't think anyone would have stopped him, was sublime.

It's a footy myth that Charlie kicked 5 on Smith last year.  Smith was on the bench for one of the goals and another was when Rivers had the ball and Smith ran of Charlie to receive a handball.  Rivers handballed it to Charlie instead and he ran into an open goal.  Technically Smith was on Charlie for that goal but it wasn't through his bad play that Charlie goaled.  It was in our first final in Adelaide.

Yeah, i also did not think he was purely responsible for all of his goals.  Actually, at the time i thought Demonland over-reacted and jumped on him pretty hard over that performance.

I think few players in the league could have stopped him that day, was electric.   On his day can make the best defenders look silly.

In the 2022 QF Cameron kicked 3.1 from 5 disposals, 4 kicks on Hibberd.  I don't think Hibbo "got torched"

Frankly I have no idea - has anyone who has followed Turner regularly at Casey an informed opinion?

Cameron was one who did damage getting up the ground and running back towards goal.

He hurt us on a day we lost by how much?

I should have said Hibbo could not get near him :P  I stand by comment he got torched.

IIRC Hibberd had very little impact....less than Cameron for sure that day.

In fairness to Hibberd, he gave Cameron a decent touch up in both home and away games during the year.

Unfortunately Hibberd like many others during that Brisbane final, were poor and badly exposed.

Agreed.  I think the main difference was Charlie getting up the ground and winning the foot races back to goal.

He tactically played a much smarter game after Hibberd getting the honors in those H & A games.

So many were below their best that day...too many injured/beaten up/out of form players.

If we are to make changes, i hope selection integrity is at the top of the tree in 2022. More players with exposed form to pick from.  When they are picked, they are ready to go. No bringing in underdone players, or rushing in a Salem for example, over a Bowey who was one of our best then dropped.

Answering my own question in relation to Jake. He has 2 sons and a daughter.

I’m pretty sure one of his boys was brawling with Nevs boy at the GF celebration at the G last year.

A bit of a domino effect from the midfield getting beaten at the clearances and lack of pressure up the ground.

Hibbo has been a fantastic pick up and servant for the club and Melk, whilst not a Hibbos level has still been a good pick up

Both players were good footballers but " time waits for no man."

I stand corrected here but I read somewhere in the context of Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti‘s status at Essendon that the Bombers needed to have him under contract at the next list lodgement date which I think comes after the delisted free agent period so, if that’s right, a decision on Hibberd & Melksham’s contracts is imminent.

Yes my understanding it's straight after DFA 1 on 10 November and before DFA 2

Both will be at Melbourne next year, it’s just a question of whether they’re on the main list or rookie list. It could even be, one gets a spot on the main list and the other gets delisted with promise of being selected again in the rookie draft, which in effect, opens up an extra list spot to pick our NGA player up without missing out on him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
