Now for the big dance Casey who have only lost 1 game for the year and beat Brisbane by 51 points will face off with Southport who beat Gold Coast by 28 points at Ikon Park at 2:30 pm. It should be a cracker with Casey being raging hot favorites. Looking forward to the T.Mac\Roo show. I'm predicting Casey to win by 35 points.

Possible team

B: D.Smith, Turner, McVee

HB: Baker, Tomlinson, Joel.Smith

C: Howes, Dunstan, Woewodin

HF: Melksham, van Rooyen, Chandler

F: Bedford, McDonald, M.Brown

FOLL: Weideman, White, Munro

IC: Laurie, Moniz-Wakefield, Ellison, Buntine, Valentine

Lockhart and Foote did well for Southport today. Look forward to seeing them return home. Should be a cracking game.

Can anyone confirm which Melbourne players are eligible, McDonald and Smith in particular.

I thought I read somewhere that Tom wouldn't be eligible if Melbourne were eliminated - could be wrong.

I believe they are both good to play.

My understanding is that because Joel Smith didn't play in a home and away AFL game after 1 July, he doesn't need to have played 6 VFL games.

Tom is also good to go...he didn't play an AFL game after 1 July, so similar applies.

My understanding is bowey can't play as he played more than 12 AFL games.

Rules are poorly written plus I stand to be corrected.

you also can't have played an afl final and then return to the lower level, not sure how that applies to being an unused medisub in smiths case

Really great opportunity for some of the young Casey lads and some vets like Munro and White.  Our key forwards are our strong point with Tmcd, JVR and Brown being good marking targets. That’s our strength.  Loss of Bowey hurts as he was very very good. It’s important that guys in the middle stand up - Dunstan, Munro, White to win the contested footy.  Baker, Bedford, Chandler, Steele and Grey to provide the run.

Southport won’t be easybeats. They’ve got a fast midfield.  They fly under the radar. They should have won by 10+ goals if they converted (39 scoring shots to 16). Crossley in the ruck is a man mountain and Weid will find out how physical ruckwork can be.  Lockhart also was very good. He’s strong at the footy. Zac Foot is a ball of muscle, good ball user and skilled. Loves a goal.  I’d have him on our MFC list.  Jacob Townsend was quiet yesterday but has been a key goal scorer. They have energy and aggression.  They’ve got plenty of ex AFL players who didn’t make the grade and $$$ to offer from their strong Sharks leagues club. Woodcock is fast and has goalsense.  Glad it’s played here in Vic and at Southport where I believe they are unbeaten this year.

By my reading Neitas Great Aunt may be eligible; bit of a worry for everyone else.

Rules were written by a 'spaghetti coder' from the 70's

Keen to pop down and check out the Tmac/JvR partnership.  Feel sorry for Rosman having to miss with concussion protocols.

Sorry, I keep my eyes firmly focussed on the Casey team and ignore most of the other VFL results, so who the hell are the Southport Sharks? My quick research suggests they aren't aligned to anyone. Would they be the next team to come in from QLD otherwise why do they even play in a Victorian league.

Biggest club in the gold coast. Arguably should have been the AFL franchise not a new club in the suns. Southport is a massive sport and recreation club biggest on the gold coast including any rugby clubs

Thanks BM. Why are they playing in a Vic league if they aren't part of some sort of future strategy? Not expecting you to know the answer to this. There are a bunch of big clubs around WA and SA that also aren't Victorian as well. Odd. Winning the VICTORIAN FL by beating Southport isn't the same as beating Box Hill hawks for example. Its hard to get excited

should have definitely been given the second franchise. A big successful sporting club.

Only if they merged with GCS.

Pokie money keeps them going

Aspley (suburb of Brisbane) was also supposed to join but couldn't afford it. Why are they in the VFL...why not..it's a weird competition

I'm not so over the detail but from what I understand. The NEAFL which used to feature Qld and NSW teams including suns, Swans, Brisbane was pretty below par standard. So they admitted them to the VFL along with the Sharks who have a high standard senior team

Yeah that was really sad for Rosman, he's had a pretty solid season.
Casey have been the silver lining in the last 3 months of a sliding season.
I'm really pumped to see our team succeed, especially for a couple of the older leaders such as Munro and White.
TMAC and JVR are great to watch together in the forward line.

We've been a great cohesive team at VFL level as compared to the frustration of watching games slide in the seniors and opportunities getting wasted in our forward line.

God forbid we don’t see every single plunging neckline.

The starting time change still doesn’t help for those who’d like to attend both this final as well as the our AFLW round 4 match which is scheduled for 4:10pm at Casey Fields. ☹️ Our cheer squad has to split into two which is a shame.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
