I thought this competition was "equal".

And not really a high price put on defenders really is there?

Do we underestimate their importance?

I'd get rid of Cousins (only because he's not currently in the AFL), bump the others up 1 spot and sneak Lloyd in at 10.

Other than that I don't fundamentally disagree with the above.

Simon Black could sneak in.

Glass and Scarlett would be on the fringes but I wouldn't call them top 10 just yet.

It'd be interesting to see where the highest Melbourne player would be ranked - would we have one in the top 50?

Lloyd...

i was at essendon vs st kilda on the weekend, and Matthew Lloyd is a disgrace

did not earn one of his goals, dived everywhere, sooked all the time

how he can be described as a champion is beyond me

on the other hand, nick reiwoldt is a champion, he faught hard all day, double teamed all the time, and just played football

people continue to overate dal santo... sure he has good games but he has to do it more than 5-6 times a year... Mcleod is definately still top 10.... class is permanent and he is back to his best....

Llloyd i wouldnt even have in my top 10..... yes it is painful watching him always looking over his shoulder for a free it looks so ridiculous.... grhhhhhhhhh

Cousins out, Brad Johnson in.

Other than that, not bad.

Perhaps you could argue that Burgoyne may be replaced by a Lloyd or a Del Santo, but I think it's not a bad top 10. Well done Yze_Magic.

How can he be described as a champion? Hmmmm....lets see.

217 games, 784 goals [top 10 on the all time goalkicking list].

Coleman medal 3 times : 2000, 2001, 2003

All Australian 5 times : 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003

Essendon leading goalkicker 9 times, every year from 1997 to 2005.

Top 3 in our B & F three times : 1997, 1998, 2001

International Rules Series : 1998, 2001

Jim Stynes Medal in 2001

AFL Rising Star nominee in 1996

Premiership side in 2000

Pre-season premiership side in 2000

Club captain 2006-

Yeah, he's just a talentless hack.

You obviously didn't notice a couple of Lloyds chases and tackles against St Kilda. Stuff like that seems to go unnoticed when people bag Lloyd. And that's a couple of weeks after Sheedy described his game in Round 1 against Adelaide as one of the best and most unselfish he has seen from captain in his time at Essendon.

dal santo is a star however i do concede that putting him in my top ten was a bit rich considering i left out a superstar in Mcleod and maybe Scott West, maybe Goodwin/Edwards, Black/Power etc.

Agree totally!!!

Kerr is ripping it up and sticking it to his detractors!

Cornes is an absolute gun and would be a walk-up start in any one of the other 15 clubs!

Heath Shaw is one of the surprise packets in my view! Having a stellar start to the season!

Goodes is a great player who has not been at his best so far this season, but is ticking along nicely!

Barry Hall is unreal.... For a bloke who injured his knee early on this year, he is not showing any sign of it!

Another 5 I would add....

Andrew McLeod - Well on the way to a stellar year and maybe another Charlie?!?!?

Chris Judd - No need to even comment!

Scott Lucas - Wish we had this sort of option up forward!

Simon Black - Leading by example to a great group of young cubs!

Matthew Pavlich - A hard running, strong leading, mark taking leader!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
