It was right in front of where we were sitting and I don’t think the footage does how hard he went at the ball the justice it deserves…it was reckless!

Viney has taken his game to another level this year. He might be up there in the Bluey imo.

I love the bloke

His best ever season for sure.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but I loved Melksham pulling down the Jacko freo jumper at the start of the game.

Not sure whether to interpret it as maintaining respect for the club, or respecting the fact that Jacko is still a Dees player or just outright not copping shït from freo fans, but loved that from the milkshake.

I could also just be massively reading into something that has no merit, either way I'm pumped with the win and stoked with how Melbourne like that performance was.

Yes, love that. I am sure he will get a little bit of ‘fan respect’ nonsense. The club should laugh it off - the fan wanted a reaction and they got one.

Please no more talk of Lobbe - hopeless player. The hair says it all.

Don't think that because no one has commented on the umpiring that it was lovely, it wasn't. They must be blind because there was a lot of interference happening to Mac and Oliver,  jumper holding and mark scragging plus now the occasional kidney punching behind the play.

Pity that a good young ruckman reverts to that stuff.

IMO his on field leadership has surpassed Max’s. I still think Max is the correct choice as skipper (seeing how he brings all the players’ together off-field), but Viney just stamps his influence on games like a man possessed. He is the one out the front willing to take all the hits and lead by example.

You don’t have to be captain to lead. Take us to the promised land, Jack.

I reckon Hibberd should get another run around next year.

Gus in the midfield let's Salem do his job too (as the half back link up). If we absolutely have to wouldn't mind him going back to a defensive wing position.

We have the cattle it's just putting them in the right paddock.

Hibbo well and truly goes around again a revitalised Dee. The lads walk taller when Hibbo's on deck.

Melk I'm loving what he is bring back to the table, he does not let interceptors take grabs at all competes above his height range.

How about some of those bullet passes.

He is not getting huge numbers but Tommy Sparrow is bringing some serious physicality to the team. Great signs for him!

Another young bloke JJ just seems to make the right decision and play such high percentage football.
I am a big fan of both!

Spot on about both.

JJ, in addition to his decision making, has the knack of being where the ball is.

Doesn't look the most athletic, but plays tall and is just a natural footballer.

Love Sparrow's grunt.

Where are my Demonlanders at? I owe you some beers.

Hey Andy @Demonland Shoulda told me you were in town.
I was in a ground level suite just beside the Dee’s bench dining on beef cheeks, roasted pumpkin and puréed spuds whilst demolishing a good ~12 single fin stubbies.
just got home and having dessert. 🍃

I'm normally a Melksham critic, but his past 2 games have shown that he has premiership qualities. His chasing and tackling (at times) have been worthy of ongoing inclusion, and at his age, show that he is dead serious about keeping his place in the team.

Reckon he may have ben stung badly by the May comments and wants to shove it up his [censored].

All this without BBB and Tmac.

To be fair it wasn't the right conditions to be missing their output.

It did appear as though our forward line and movement was no where near as clogged up as has been usual..

I completely missed this, so he ripped this freo jumper off a Jacko cut out i take it?

No one messes with Jake the Snake.

Just logging on an I may have (likely to have) missed many a comment about this but can someone please f*^%^* tell Gawn to change his ridiculous set shot routine?! It is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

Some muppet was waving a Fremantle guernsey with Doggas name on it in front of our boys as they ran onto the ground. Jake wasn’t putting up with that $h!t

As Melbourne a win as I've seen this year.

Steady-time, strangulation football at its finest. We never streaked ahead in an 8 goal burst in 6 minutesto put the game out of reach, but we didn't need to. It was 3 goals to us, maybe one or 2 to them and then 4 to us spaced out over a 25 minute stanza of play.

Frontal pressure was back in a big way tonight. Hands were up, bullocking was done and chasing ever present. Coast to coast ball movement came about from organization behind the ball and getting out back by utilzing defensive fifty pressure.

Big hand to Fritta. He might have unfairly copped a lot of shizer, but there have been multiple times over the last few months where he hasn't passed off when he should. He did so tonight and probably got let down by his team mates who didn't convert. But that he did was a great sign.

Jack Viney was absolutely outstanding. Hard as a cat's head, he is now using his footy smarts too. He's not just like a bulldog charging into packs. He's got a few steps and dance moves that he used sensationally tonight. When the time has come to stand up and be counted, Jack has done it consistently from 2015 onwards. We made the right choice when we picked Maxy as captain. However, should he be hit by a bus tomorrow, I have full confidence Jack would do an exemplary job in the role.

Melksham is also indicating to me that he might have something in the tank for this September. What I have noticed is his chase and defensive pressure (which was his weakness leading into the '21 finals). Quite a few times have I seen him charging flat chat out of the forward 50 to try to pin down a flanker running the ball out of there. He doesn't have the jets of a Kozzy or Hunt, but the effort is what is telling for mine. He could be invaluable with his ability to connect moving forward into the fifty.

Gus was also invaluable tonight. We talk about swingmen in football. He would have to be it. Put him back and he plays taller than his height. Put him on the wing and his committment to 1% and clogging up space makes him indispensible. Put him in the guts and he is in his wheelhouse. I thought he might have been gone by the end of this week, but I'm bloody glad he stayed.

Next week, it's Collingwood. Since 2020, I like the fact that we rarely let teams beat us more than two times in a row. We owe them for Queen's Birthday and a win will be a major statement from us. Either way, it will be a ripping game hopefully!

Vineys spin out of a tackle at full pace on that far wing which led to a goal was just beautiful.

God he's great to watch at the moment.

I was at just below ground level which was a rather weird viewing point and the  first time I’ve been at that level - usually watching from above.
But watching at ground level and with the contest only 2 metres away, to hear not only Viney and Petracca and co’ in those whack and smack duels along with Jordan and many more

Everyone was just cracking in hard and it was superb to watch and the different perspective was pretty neat for a change.

Fantastic conversion rate. One goal from one kick. If only he could get more kicks.....

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
