On the back of winning the first 10 games. Not saying he doesn’t deserve another year but we won’t be contending if we only have one tall fwd again next year.

You said it was 50/50 which I don’t agree with.  Regardless of our forward issues, Melksham earned his contract

I thought we were going to the draft? Hunt, Hibberd and Melksham getting new deals we only have 1 draft pick 2 if you count the possibility of Rosman getting delisted and 3 if they trade out Bedford which would be stupid. I was expecting more we are far too nice a club.

Now a fact:  JUNIOR Rioli has made a decision on his future and informed West Coast of his desire to be traded to Port Adelaide.

Eagles didn't mince words:  "We could not have done any more to support Junior since his infraction in 2019," CEO Trevor Nisbett said. "We facilitated his appeal and subsequent return to football, so this decision is bitterly disappointing."

They paid him while suspended and paid his legal and QC bills so reaction understandable.

Can completely understand their position.
A total rat move by him.

Sometimes players don’t get how good they have it. Imagine these guys in the real world in a real work place. They’d crash and burn so quickly.

Trades, Werridee. Jackson gone, if Bedford doesn’t sign a contract he will be traded, Adam T needs to go somewhere. Also yes I think Rosman should be delisted.

We will get nothing for Tomlinson doubt that anyone would want him like the Weid.

With Griffin Logue seemingly on his way out of Freo, what are folks thoughts on snaffling him to add to our defence. Thereby freeing up Harry Petty to become our "best KPF since David Neitz"?

Hard no. Petty forward is one thing, but Griffin Logue stinks.

Maybe, although name the top 5 performing forwards this year and he might be on it after playing like 8 games…

Plus we need to spread out our delistings for the year after what I can see on the contracts page.

Im fairly ambivalent about Jackson leaving...but Kozzie....would break me. Wanted us to draft him when he was nowhere near the first round discussion and love watching him - a player other teams always seemed to have before we finally landed one.

Would be utterly heartbreaking

Looks like scuttlebutt but unfortunately this is exactly how Jackson started last year.

Very very flat

Jackson gone, Rosman and Baker gone IMO, Bedford and Hunt both still uncontracted as well. Then Daw and Mitch Brown probably gone as rookies too. There's possibly 5 senior spots and 2 rookie spots already and we haven't even got around to the possibility of contracted players who could be traded.

Makes sense, is one of the rare quality kicks as well.

We have to promote Chandler. I thought he signed a 2 year deal. When the crows were after him. Rosman and Chandler cancel each other out. Jackson and Baker out. Someone on here said Ralphy said Hunt has a contract also.

I'm missing something here add Bedford which is a poor move. I'd rather have him on the list than Hunt, Melksham and Hibberd. Bedford will get us Essendon's second pick maybe. We only have 3 picks in the draft. 1 of them going for Grundy, so we only have 2 picks that's Jackson's 2 first picks what about the rest of them? What about Emile-Brennan? If he goes past 40 we don't pick him up? What's going on there?

I hope the reporters are wrong we can't afford to hold onto old fringe players like Hunt, Melksham and Hibberd.

Well, they shouldn’t be too surprised that it all went up in smoke.

Melksham played forward for the 2nd half of the year in a team that finished 2nd on the ladder, he deserves and has earned a contract

players have been "retired" off far better seasons than he's had tbf, just ask lachie henderson last year at the cats, played 22 games at FB of a prelim side

FEB could be grabbed as a cat b rookie. if rosman and chandler do in fact trade places, then we'd only have to delist/trade one senior player and one rookie to have our allotted 3 picks. as our list is currently set up as 36 senior players and 6 A rookies. by losing jackson and mbrown and daw we would then be able to have 4 A rookies and go up to 38 senior players. meaning we have 3 picks.

Lots to play out mate.

What if he is picked up between 40 and the end of the draft? Does he automatically come to us after 40 as a cat B rookie

Damn I was considering suggesting this

no, thatd be the risk we'd have totake but we would obviously discuss with his agent where other interest was coming from and how strong it was before making any decisions

In the article above ⬆️ it says Freo are interested in Jeremy Sharp. He looked good in his draft year. Is he trying to get back to WA (requested a trade)? I wouldn't mind if the dees looked at him.Very strong runner IIRC?

I didn't know about the 38 and 4 rule. That's better we can have 5 picks then that makes more sense as we only have 3 rookies.

Heard on the radio that Lobb has apparently bought a house in Melb and already moved in???

Hard to continue playing for Freo when you live in Melbourne 🤷

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
