Pray tell, what is the difference between rigged and manipulated?

No idea what you guys are arguing about but I’d say Rigged implies the outcome is  100% determined. Manipulated just pushes things in that direction.

What we're discussing (not arguing) is Clint's long-held assertion that the AFL and its umpires are influencing games to achieve a pre-determined outcome.  My view is that such an opinion is balderdash.

I didn’t realise they had players out because of Covid but they were finished before that. Too many players that beat up on weaker opponents but go missing when it counts.

I wouldn't exactly disagree with it, they appear to manipulate a fair bit.

This. Umpiring does impact ladder positions. Carlton and Collingwood getting help on this front. Sometimes teams aren't good enough to take advantage of the help though. But it's there. Dogs have had it for years.

Things like the rule of the week have influence too.

It seems to me Clint that you only trot your theory out if Melbourne are losing or other games aren't going the way that you'd prefer.  For example, I've never heard you claim that any of our wins are the result of such "manipulation".

Happy to agree to disagree with your views on the matter.  All the best to you.

With due respect Clint (please dont take it personally as I like you) but that seems a long draw to bow. I agree that one team towns/Clubs with larger fan bases do receive the rub of the green from umpires (as per last week in Adelaide) but to suggest its intentionally influencing ladder positions is a stretch.

There seems the derth of good umpires across the AFL and State league competitions which is degrading the standard of umpiring and the way some rules are interpreted from week to week. It certainly impacting the enjoyment of watching football ATM.

But in the end I believe the best team generally wins.

I'm not saying intentionally influencing ladder positions, but the opportunity is there for some teams (Carlton and Collingwood as I have mentioned) to benefit from the good run provided by the umps. It could be as simple as the umpires' coaches mentioning to umpires that certain players are being regularly held in marking contests and to be aware of it. McKay and Curnow the obvious ones.

Clarry and Josh Kelly get held at every stoppage but rarely get frees for it. Guess the umpires coaches don't talk about it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
