@Little Goffyย I remember big Jim playing in his twilight years, but was just a very wee tacker when he first came out from Ireland. If Curtin ends up having half the career of Jimma, heโ€™ll be a good player.

Whilst weโ€™re on the topic of draftees reminiscent of other players, the way Sanders goes about it reminds me a lot of JHF. He is just so upright when he runs.

@dazzledavey36ย Thanks. Good FOX FOOTY article on draftees post the combine camp. ย Iโ€™d definitely be very happy with Sanders as a classy midfielder at pick 6 (7). ย

Yeah I'm the same.

Our midfield depth has taken a hit and right as we speak, we have no up and coming wave of midfield talent coming through considering Viney will be 30 next year, Brayshaw and Oliver's health concerns and then Petracca turning 28 next year.

I wouldn't say it's an aging midfield, but we're certainly lacking fresh talent in that department.ย

ย

1-10. Harley Reid, Jed Walter (suns academy) , Daniel Curtin , Coby Mckercher, Zane Duursma Ryley Sanders, Nick Watson, Ethan Read (suns academy), Connor Oโ€™Sullivan , Nate Caddy

11-20 Darcy Wilson Archer Reid, Mitchell Edwards (Freo nga), Jake Rogers (suns academy) , Ollie Murphy,ย George Stevens, Logan Morris, Caleb Windsor, Nathan Philactides, Riley Hardemanย

21-40. Will McCabe (hawks F/son), Koltyn Tholstrup, Lance Collard, Charlie Edwards, Jordan Croft (bulldogs f/son), Joel Freijah,ย Will Dawson, Harry Demattia, Ashton Moir,ย Clay Hall,James Leake,ย Will Graham (Suns academy) , Archie Roberts, Will Lorenz, Angus Hastie, Cooper Simpson, Luamon Luai, Arie Schoenmaker,ย Will Green, Jack Delean.ย

Seems like we will take whoever is left, out of the initial talented group (with our first pick). Should be interesting to see how it plays out. You would suspect we will end up with one of Sanders or Watson, or even with Curtin as a smokey.

If thatโ€™s the case, Iโ€™d go Sanders and hope like heโ€™ll Oโ€™Sullivan would be available at our next pick

Interesting to hear Tim Lamb confirm that we see pick 11 considerably more valuable than pick 14 and that's why we traded up.ย  There must be a quality cliff somewhere after 11 and before 14 non northern-Academy and F/S players.ย  He said we were confident of getting very good players at 6 and 11.

Cal Twomey's September rankings:

To 6: Reid, (Walter), Duursma, McKercher, Watson, Curtin, Sanders

To 11: Caddy, (Read), O'Sullivan, (Croft), (Rogers), Murphy, Windsor, Wilson

Following those sets through to 14 are (Leake), Hardeman, (McCabe), Tholstrup, De Mattia - that's 20 players altogether.

Of course we may rate someone else in that top 11.

Good post @old55ย itโ€™s exactly my thinking ย

queryโ€ฆ do you think we will trade out this years pick โ€œ42โ€ as it is unlikely we will use it . It probably depends on wherever Kynan Brown gets nominated which may be around that mark. ย
We might even look to trade โ€œ42โ€ to Crows or West Coast for a future 3rd ?ย

With Petty sounding gone at the end of next year, I really hope we take the best one available to us of Curtin, O'Sullivan and Murphy.

42 is placed in a handy position if someone we really rate slides out of the top 25 or so. And as you say, if there's no one there we really like, try to trade it into 2024 on draft night.

Hopefully it's too early for K.Brown and we can take him with a later pick. I think we will take him, a la Taj, with our last pick.

We need to make sure we have enough live list spots.

What's the consensus on Nate Caddy?

If McKercher is out of the frame, I'm warming to Nate as the slightly undersized key fwd (though he plays bigger, jumps at the ball) that we need (assuming Petty is out long term). He's far more dynamic than JVR and I like the way he plays with aggression and authority. Has a little bit of DH about him but in a good environment he has the tools to be a star (potentially C Curnow like).ย

Feels like one we'll regret if we miss. Pretty sure he wouldn't last to 11 but not sure about him at 6.ย

Anyone know anything more about him? Would definitely prefer him to Watson.ย

Sounding unlikely we get pick 1, so we're likely going to draft with pick 6 and 11.

Realistic targets;

Pick 6, we'll take Sanders as a well rounded classy midfielder. Best performed midfielder of this crop thus far and looks like he'll have a good career. Might not have the high X factor game breaker ability of Reid or Duursma, but IMO will be more consistent and have a better career. Capable inside and outside, wins his own ball, great runner and lineman, can hit the scoreboard, has leadership potential. He'll be a winner.
Other possibilities are Watson or Curtin sliding.
Mckercher and Duursma will be gone.

Pick 11, hoping for Darcy Wilson to add outside dash and skill to our midfielder or flanks in future.
Other possibilities are Murphy, Windsor or Leake.
O'Sullivan and Caddy will be gone.

Like your thinking LT,

for mine whilst Iโ€™d love Curtin or Sanders I think itโ€™s a no brainer if Sanders is available at 6. Curtin wonโ€™t last till 11, Oโ€™Sullivan highly unlikely but a possibility, however I believe Murphy will be there.

Sanders and Oโ€™Sullivan fantastic get but even Sanders and Murphy wouldnโ€™t be to bad

Given the Question mark on Harrison sticking with us, it seems picking up Curtin as a tall who can play both ends is the perfect solution/backup...ย

O'Sullivan or Caddy with pick 6, Wilson or Windsor with pick 11

I think at 6 we may just wait, and take whoever is left from that top tier. That said, JT does like to do his own thing, so we could we'll end up with someone unexpected.

ย

There's a significant drop in talent after the first top 5 picks imo. That's not even counting Jed Walter or Ethan Reed.

If Hawthorn take Watson and WB take Sanders then reckon we take Curtin or Caddy as he won't be there at 11. Prefer Reid but not looking likely at this stage.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
