sorry I was more referring to it would be better if he wasn't in the squad so he could potentially be picked up using a lower pick . Long bow i know

Ahh yeah I get you.

I'd personally rather him be seen as a higher pick so we get a bargain paying a lower pick for a high ranked player. I think ideally between 10-20 and we try trade up for a top 10 pick.

Wish list in 2023 draft. Pace and pace and run and run.  Like to see another quality mid and 2 youngsters with genuine pace as half back/outside runners. Lorenz currently on the top of the 2023 names imv.

Aiden O’Driscoll has pace, endurance, skills, awareness and impacts the scoreboard. My only concern is potential flight risk, very close knit family

Nathan Philactides qualifies for your list.

Until about 12 months ago Chris Doerre was the draft guru of the bigfooty.com website operating there as “Knightmare”. By then, he had gone commercial and was writing for the ESPN conglomerate producing his insights into matters AFL extending beyond the drafts and attracting controversy for his views of a nature that certainly didn’t hurt his click count. Anyhow, he somehow fell foul of the powers that be at Bigfooty and now he’s still doing his thing at ESPN as well as freelancing. The name of his latest effort on YouTube is “My top 2023 AFL Draft prospects and 2 AFL Draft learnings”.

I was interested to find out whether he was pushing one particular player. You live and learn.

First time, longtime 🤩

Reading the Herald Sun, apparently he is lightning quick.  Has an athletics background in the 110m hurdles and competed on the national stage and is the Vic state champion. A bit of kouta and Andrew McGrath in him.  He will be around the mark at pick 13 & 14. We could do with some speed in the high HB position.

Would be great to see Philactides running out of our backline, he'd be a great fit for us. He's a good kick on the left as well.

ATM I have two tiers of players I'd be thrilled to see in the red and blue in '24.

The top tier are Reid (can't see a pathway to getting him though), Zane Duursma and Ashton Moir.  I'd have a few others in this tier of quality, but the positional fit for us isn't obvious.

Tier two includes Darcy Wilson and Philactides along with Will Lourenz. I like what I've seen of Malik Gordan and Archie Roberts, who I've just about got in tier 2.

Dont forget we have picks 13 & 14 and we have a habit of using our picks to climb the order, Cozzie is a perfect example.  We actually tried to use picks 13 &14 to get Bailey Humphrey this year so I would say we are still a sniff to get one of Reid, Duursma or Moir if we trade our picks.  If not, it's a strong draft so we will land 2 jets anyway. I think we have gaps across HB and wing that can be improved, as well as needing some more speed to compliment the game plan.

So we have one player in the Metro side tied to us as a father-son who will cost draft points if we select him early and another in the Country side who we can only draft if he is not picked inside the top 40. The worse they perform the better it is for us and the best thing to do is hide them away. We can't do that if they make these representative sides though, can we?

Bit of lateral thinking needed...get them out on the grog together on the eve of the carnival..punch up...arrested...abuse female police officer...sent home...should  slide nicely

I'd also keep a watch on GC's first rounder, which will almost certainly be on the table as it's likely a bid for Jed Walter will come in before that (plus they have a couple of other good players coming through from their academy next season).

Wouldn't be surprised to see us put a future 1st and our 2nd rounders on the table to have a crack at securing their first rd pick.

Yeah good pick up.  Walter is a top 3 pick atm and hes destined for the suns.  If your scenario worked out then we would jump significantly securing a top 10 pick.  I wouldn't want to give up both picks in 2023 though as it's such a strong draft.

Ethan Read is an young ruck in Suns Academy with terrific ruckcraft but very light - he could be a first rounder too.

Chris Cavanagh with his preview of AFL Draft 2023: Top prospects, father-son, Academy players

Included is this pen picture of father/son prospect Kynan Brown who did some preseason work with the club:-

“Kynan Brown (Oakleigh Chargers) – A ball-winning midfielder who can also go forward and impact the scoreboard. He is a father-son prospect for Melbourne, as the son of Nathan Brown who played 146 games for the Demons from 1998-2007. Featured in the under-17 Futures game last year.”

More than 400 of the top underage footballers from 12 Coates Talent League clubs across Victoria converged on Maribyrnong College on Saturday primarily to show off their athletic traits.

Players were put through a series of five tests, consisting of the standing vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20m sprint, AFL agility test and Yo-Yo test.

Only a few results are currently available but one of the standouts was Gippsland Power forward-midfielder Zane Duursma – brother of Port Adelaide’s Xavier and nephew of Demon Jamie Duursma who played 33 games for Melbourne in the late 1980s.

I know this draft has been mentioned as a super draft for a while now. For those that watch closely is that because of the top end talent or because the talent pool runs deep?
Given our strong draft hand will be interesting to see how we play it.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
