2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Recommended Posts

The Herald Sun’s online page has a feature today highlighting the 2023 draft prospects.

There are two players covered in the article of special interest to Demon fans so I thought we should kick things off early.

The first is a father/son prospect who is the son of our Nathan Brown who played 146 games for the club between 1998 and 2007. A dogged small utility, Brown’s achievements included -

  • Fourth Best and Fairest 2002
  • Most Consistent Player 2002
  • Second Best and Fairest 2004
  • Most Consistent Player 2004
  • Best Clubman 2005

Here’s the item about his son Kynan

Or the Robbie to the Tom (Flower) ...

The Coodabeens in the 1980s were the first ones to run with this concept to my knowledge.

I once shared a team on this forum consisting of dud brothers at Melbourne but it angered and upset so many posters that I had to ask Andy to delete the post.

Sounds like we will need a heap of picks for next year's draft?

more likely that we'll trade out of next year's first rounder, into this year's first round, and 'bank' some third and fourth round selections to accumulate enough points in 2023 to cover the recruitment of kynan brown in the likelihood he goes mid first round

Harley Reid was by a distance the best talent in the Vic Country-Allies game.  Ashton Moir is going to be something to follow - kicks set shots with both feet and a mercurial forward.

An unorthodox action but if it works for him then that's what matters.

Yes both Harley Reid and Zane Duursma were super impressive in the Vic Country v Allies under 18s match.  They’d be drafted this year Vic eligible and probably be top 30-40.

Reid would be borderline top 5, possibly higher, and a top 10 certainty.  Duursma borderline top 10.

Yes IB13 they looked impressive and certainly top 10 likely in 2023. Reid in particular will be very popular as he takes the game on as a midsize back with good skills & pace but looks very capable as a man on man defender.

hopefully riak andrew is the dylan to mac's jack grimes

was at the coburg gcs vfl game on the weekend, despite the loss mac was incredible in the air taking 5-6 intercept marks in pack situations, once he fills out his frame he's going to be a special player, don't go writing him off any time soon

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
