No one has mentioned that with two key forwards, on their own, virtually in the goal square, why Harmes didn’t pass it to them, rather than take the shot. Kicking to the forwards would have made a certainty of the goal. Of late, Harmes kicking on the run hasn’t been great, so could have easily missed. Both were not team first decisions in my view.

When we can have a shot we take it.

If we kick a point we back our structure. For the opposition's kick out. If we kick a goal even better.

Passing to a "better option" gives us a higher chance of turning it over and less opportunity to defend if we do.

Can we have a game or 2 with both Kozzie and Bedford in the forward line? They seemed to combine brilliantly on a couple of occasions in a pre-season game. Not sure how we'd fit him in if all 5 covids come back, but perhaps ANB to the wing, Jordon to the mids, and maybe Harmes has a rest? Not sure if it can be done, but would just love to see these 2 excitement machines playing together.

ANB only comes out of iso on Friday, so they won’t play him.  Therefore you’ll get your wish of Kozzie and Bedford in the same team.

While i think you're probably right, ANB is one of the fittest at the club, so if anyone is able to bounce back quickly it'd be him.

I think it is more to do with not getting a training session into him and assess how he pulls up.

As the game is on Sunday they might try him out on Saturday. Similarly Viney missed team training for all his iso time and had a training session the day before the ANZAC game and played.

Having said that  @Demons11    often has good intel so I wouldn't be surprised if ANB doesn't play.

Potentially, there really is no need to rush him back so i'm sure unless he bounces back really really well he will probably have a spell this weekend.

we really did miss him on the weekend though so i am keeping my fingers crossed for a miraculous recovery

If ANB doesn't make it back we have Pickett and Sparrow as front half players returning.

Who goes out from Melksham, Bedford, Dunstan?  Can see a case for each one to stay.  Another difficult decision for selection committee.

Pretty sure not kicking the goal so he could start the celebrations earlier would have been the more selfish move.

yep kicking the ball into the crowd or throwing it away so you can enjoy the exact moment you win the premiership with your TEAM mates would be a selfish move 🤦‍♂️

who cares about an extra goal to the margin or an extra goal on the stat sheet when you have just won, oh hang on, Tom did.

I might be harsh but Im not having Toms explanation. he knows exactly where he is. The ball had more chance of hitting the fence on the full than bouncing on the line. Im not sure who could have come from behind him, a member of the cheer squad?? Add this to the massive burn in the 3rd he looked to me to be playing for his position and not the team.

I suppose when you look at his kick after the siren in the GF it makes a lot of sense.

Respect your view, I think when it comes to the two moments I see it just a bit differently in that I really appreciate Tom's laser like focus and not letting anything around him faze that. On both occasions he's made a decision and carried through with it 100%. I think it's an exceptional quality to have, whether he was right or wrong on Sat.

Which is one reason why criticism of tmac for being 'selfish' when he chose to shoot for goal not pass to a teammate(s) is unwarranted.

Bad decision?

Maybe- though I'm not convinced it was in the circumstances.

Selfish?

Nup.

My MFCSS senses are tingling and I reckon the Saints won't kick a point this weekend.

Your MFCSS is so acute you are worried Bruce will kick a bag against us this weekend, coz he 'always does'..

And that is in spite of the fact you know he is currently out injured and he no longer plays for the saints.

Maybe, had Weeds been a more "assertive" or confident sort of character, he would have called for Tom to leave it?  It was really up to him, with a wider view of the whole situation, to make such a call.

I was happy for Weeds not to contest the ball with Mc Donald in the goal square but him knowing that should have lead him to call McDonald out of the way to let the ball drift through off Harmes boot.

God forbid that Harmes should finish his career on  only 499 goals because T Mac snaffled one of his goals !!!!

It was an MFC Grand Final winning margin.

I think we'll all be happy, none more so than Harmes, if he finishes on 499 goals. Needs another 428 to get there. If we assume he plays another 150 games (he's currently played 129), that's an average of 2.85 goals a game from hereon.

I don’t disagree on ANB’s fitness levels but I think you’ll find someone like ANB who uses his fitness and absolute weapon will feel the effects of missing training

100%. what did it achieve apart from adding to Tom stats. I would have been celebrating with my team mates.

You seriously think he should not have  taken that kick?

What would you have had him do instead - kick into the stands, just drop the ball at his feet, bomb it up the ground?

A professional footballer does not refuse to take a shot after the siren in any circumstances.

What did it achieve?

For one thing it was yet another example of our discipline and playing to the final siren. And an example of tom's professionalism and respect for the game.

The same discipline underpinned why goody never fudged the rules to get Jordon on the ground, something he could easily have done (after all Steve may had a tear in his hammy).

When asked why he didn't goody (paraphrasing) said no one was injured so he couldn't do it. Discipline.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
