And they’ve lost to Carlton (25), St Kilda (33), Adelaide (19) and beaten Bulldogs (38), GWS (36). I’d like to know this persons thought process and reasoning. 

They are Richmond fans. Please check those expectations at the door thanks. 

The loss to Adelaide isn't great but they are an up and down young team.

The rest of the Tigers results aren't terrible. Their list is still pretty good on paper and could give us a shake if we aren't on.

I think we win comfortably though. I would love for us to repeat the GWS treatment.

The AFL had ZERO time for our [censored], they saw 17 clubs doing everything they can to make this work & 1 being petulant flogs taking up their valuable time & then still nearly risked it all when they got in a streetfight breaking hub. The AFL had to suck some serious [censored] to convince the QLD govt to not send the entire league home. It was a BIG BIG DEAL.All the while when this is going on, the ******* coach was shacking up with a younger employee inside that same hub while his much adored wife sat at home with the kids. The AFL had a gutful.

As i said, when Dimma STUPIDLY made those comments about Stack missing a ******* VFL game about Dan Andrews - the AFL had zero ******* time for it & wanted him under that bus as quickly as possible. You reckon that [censored] blew up into front news story by accident?? the AFL had already seen our behaviour damage their reputation with the QLD govt, & here he is now damaging our reputation with the VIC govt - another ALP govt.

They are not going to take the knee off the RFC till Dimma is gone. Just like the Carlton / Elliot, Bombers / Hird & Collingwood Buckley/Macguire problem - it will not end till they have a scalp to hang on the wall as a clear example of "DO NOT fu** WITH THE SYSTEM"

I might predate you but I was there when the captain-coach's inspiring pregame address (sans teeth) was literally;

Now, we've got a young boy playing his first game today and, if anyone touches him, remember our motto - one in; all in and if we sometimes lose the game we always win the fight.

Depends what month in 49,  but I started playing those sides after I turned 30  so you might be right,    (UHSOB  toos )

When I was growing up in the 1960s I had a book I treasured about the tough men of football. I have no idea now of the book's name or author but remember reading about Mopsy Fraser, a Richmond hard man. From that day onwards, I've always feared Richmond and its supporters more than any other club.

Would have been late 50's as a spectator. Before I could sell enough papers to regularly get to the 'G.

When bodgie Bob was the local copper and the neighborhood was scary.  Funny to go back ther now and see how the hood has become  gentrified / hipster town.

Was it this book?  I read it and re-read it avidly as a kid and still have it sitting in my footy book collection.

Now old Jack once he stopped playing and was on TV  He would have a beer in the Press Bar of Lou Richards pub,

He would talk and chat to all of the cheers squad kids, no matter what age or what club. He was a nice "old bloke". Mr Richards on the other hand was not, but his wife was great support to all the kids

Wow. That's it! I'd forgotten it was written by Jack Dyer (or, at least, is attributed to him). But it's the dark green cover and the title that I remember now that I've seen it again. I must have read it a dozen times.

Maybe Lou was concerned about  his publican’s licence. His media profile did paint a portrait of a friendly bloke with a comedic streak. Which is the lasting impression I have after attending a sportsman’s night back at the old old school.

I would wager that Jack did very little, if any, of the actual writing!

The book, which was published in 1968 by Southdown Press, cost $1.25 for the soft cover edition.

Apart from Mopsy Fraser, there are also chapters on Ron Barassi, John Coleman, Murray Weideman, Carl Ditterich, Ted Whitten, Bob Skilton, John Peck and Norm Smith, five of whom have a past or present connection to Melbourne.

To call all these players "Wild Men" is drawing the longest of bows.

The chapter on John Coleman is a cracker. Gives some insight into how good he was.

We were all over 16, so running just a little freely, a couple actually had a license,..... I actually think you were in London Town at this time, Carnaby Street, QPR,  Queens Head Pub (?) in Chelsea and the terrace house with the disco in the basement.      Long time ago                                         I have to go and wash the dishes                 such is life    paying penance now with the kids we look after,  for running a bit out of control when others were creating families and debts.

Looks like the membership cards have got microwaved already this year.

Amazing how quickly they've all jumped off the band wagon, although not all that surprising.  Their former stars have either retired, are cooked or have been traded and I don't see a whole lot of tallent coming through behind them to step up into the voids.  Could be some lessons in this for us in a few years, although I'm not sure we're quite as top heavy age wise as they were/are.

The references in various posts to Melbourne as "the shemons" display extraordinary wit and intelligence on the part of those Tigers'supporters. Breathtaking.

I'm also impressed that these 4 year olds are so computer savvy.

Some posters on this forum are no better with their use of such childish, cringeworthy terms as "Whorethorn", "West Coke", "Essendrug" and "Jeelong".
