And they’ve lost to Carlton (25), St Kilda (33), Adelaide (19) and beaten Bulldogs (38), GWS (36). I’d like to know this persons thought process and reasoning.

They are Richmond fans. Please check those expectations at the door thanks.

The loss to Adelaide isn't great but they are an up and down young team.

The rest of the Tigers results aren't terrible. Their list is still pretty good on paper and could give us a shake if we aren't on.

I think we win comfortably though. I would love for us to repeat the GWS treatment.

Found it.  Also, someone calls Christian Salem "Christian Slalom" and really enjoyed his own work.

"they are corporate - of course they are hypocritical. Its not so much the affair which ruined him with the league - it was all the stuff that happened in the Gold Coast hub period. The Cotchins, Kebabgate etc. As i have said before, i have it on very very good authority that at a time when the AFL were scrambling to keep the competition running to avoid tens of millions of dollars lost....a literal lifetime or achievements [censored] away in one massive pandemic wee .... at a time when they were trying to work out the near impossible logistics of running a national league in a hub, re-accommodating 16 clubs, their entire list + their families, staff..... our club was BY FAR the most annoying, entitled and consuming of their time. Our demands were ridiculous - we had players contacting the VERY HIGH UP AFL officials about ridiculous request like asking for food to be delivered to their rooms at the AFLS cost. One story i heard was that a player contacted Gil directly to ask about getting their pet dog bought up to the hub on the basis that it was his GF's "emotional supporter" animal - it was totally, ******* ridiculous stuff. It all boiled over with the "Cotchins Wife" massage parlour thing. The club then got its [censored] together and just on the cusp of [censored] getting really dicey, Stack and CCJ pulled the "Kebabgate" [censored]. The AFL had ZERO time for our [censored], they saw 17 clubs doing everything they can to make this work & 1 being petulant flogs taking up their valuable time & then still nearly risked it all when they got in a streetfight breaking hub. The AFL had to suck some serious [censored] to convince the QLD govt to not send the entire league home. It was a BIG BIG DEAL.All the while when this is going on, the ******* coach was shacking up with a younger employee inside that same hub while his much adored wife sat at home with the kids. The AFL had a gutful.

As i said, when Dimma STUPIDLY made those comments about Stack missing a ******* VFL game about Dan Andrews - the AFL had zero ******* time for it & wanted him under that bus as quickly as possible. You reckon that [censored] blew up into front news story by accident?? the AFL had already seen our behaviour damage their reputation with the QLD govt, & here he is now damaging our reputation with the VIC govt - another ALP govt.

They are not going to take the knee off the RFC till Dimma is gone. Just like the Carlton / Elliot, Bombers / Hird & Collingwood Buckley/Macguire problem - it will not end till they have a scalp to hang on the wall as a clear example of "DO NOT fu** WITH THE SYSTEM"

The best thing we could do is let the blood be spilt, bottom out & take the pick along with the medicine they want to serve us. Its over folks. 33-13 says it all"

Lay off the drugs kids they make you paranoid.

Thanks to Luci for including this one. My absolute favourite positive comment:

  • Actually, I think the underdog has won every one of our games this year. We might be a chance.

My selection from the BF Tigers Board:

Don’t think we’ll be favourites. Posted by a master of understatement.

Langdon, Trac and Oliver are their three key midfield suppliers.
Must curb them.
Someone to crunch Fritsch from behind. Presumably posted by an ex Richmond Citizens FC player, motto 'one in all in' and more than once banned from the comp. back in the day.

* If we win this it would be some Magician pulling a win out of his ... (BF censors not as assiduous as DLand)

I might predate you but I was there when the captain-coach's inspiring pregame address (sans teeth) was literally;

Now, we've got a young boy playing his first game today and, if anyone touches him, remember our motto - one in; all in and if we sometimes lose the game we always win the fight.

Depends what month in 49,  but I started playing those sides after I turned 30  so you might be right,    (UHSOB  toos )

When I was growing up in the 1960s I had a book I treasured about the tough men of football. I have no idea now of the book's name or author but remember reading about Mopsy Fraser, a Richmond hard man. From that day onwards, I've always feared Richmond and its supporters more than any other club.

All the more reason for as many of us as possible to rock up to the G this weekend.  Times have changed. We at the moment are the ‘alpha tribe’. Let’s strut our stuff both on the field and in the stands.  Let’s demonise the ferals on all levels.

When I was in the Cheer Squads, (way way back) one of my mates was in a leading Richmond role,    He gave away half a house three times to girls he hated,  probably typical

Would have been late 50's as a spectator. Before I could sell enough papers to regularly get to the 'G.

When bodgie Bob was the local copper and the neighborhood was scary.  Funny to go back ther now and see how the hood has become  gentrified / hipster town.

And there I'll leave the history lesson and allow posters to get back to the thread intent. Or should I start a Hoods in the Hood thread for us oldies to reminisce in?

Was it this book?  I read it and re-read it avidly as a kid and still have it sitting in my footy book collection.

Now old Jack once he stopped playing and was on TV  He would have a beer in the Press Bar of Lou Richards pub,

He would talk and chat to all of the cheers squad kids, no matter what age or what club. He was a nice "old bloke". Mr Richards on the other hand was not, but his wife was great support to all the kids

enough I think getting told to stop and have my dinner....

Wow. That's it! I'd forgotten it was written by Jack Dyer (or, at least, is attributed to him). But it's the dark green cover and the title that I remember now that I've seen it again. I must have read it a dozen times.

Maybe Lou was concerned about  his publican’s licence. His media profile did paint a portrait of a friendly bloke with a comedic streak. Which is the lasting impression I have after attending a sportsman’s night back at the old old school.

On the title page it says "Written by Jack Dyer and Brian Hansen".

I would wager that Jack did very little, if any, of the actual writing!

The book, which was published in 1968 by Southdown Press, cost $1.25 for the soft cover edition.

Apart from Mopsy Fraser, there are also chapters on Ron Barassi, John Coleman, Murray Weideman, Carl Ditterich, Ted Whitten, Bob Skilton, John Peck and Norm Smith, five of whom have a past or present connection to Melbourne.

To call all these players "Wild Men" is drawing the longest of bows.

The chapter on John Coleman is a cracker. Gives some insight into how good he was.

We were all over 16, so running just a little freely, a couple actually had a license,..... I actually think you were in London Town at this time, Carnaby Street, QPR,  Queens Head Pub (?) in Chelsea and the terrace house with the disco in the basement.      Long time ago                                         I have to go and wash the dishes                 such is life    paying penance now with the kids we look after,  for running a bit out of control when others were creating families and debts.

  • Can we forfeit this game.  How did the VFL game go today?
  • Could be a smashing on the cards, particularly if they open Richmond up early in the game.
  • The Dees will obliterate us
  • Along with the green flogs loving them so much. Might break the free kick count record next week.
  • Rolling Jesus of the bench won't help next week.
  • The MC have to take the bull by the horns and start blooding more of our kids as it is obvious some of our established stars are currently not up to it. We also want players who can play four quarters and not cameos
  • I didn't see the game yesterday so have no idea.  Except to say God help us against the Dees
  • Sorry I can't watch this....I have to wash my hair
  • It's a toss up whether I'll watch the grass grow or the paint dry.  Melbourne will be a formidable opponent to combat. It could get ugly for Richmond.

Looks like the membership cards have got microwaved already this year.

Amazing how quickly they've all jumped off the band wagon, although not all that surprising.  Their former stars have either retired, are cooked or have been traded and I don't see a whole lot of tallent coming through behind them to step up into the voids.  Could be some lessons in this for us in a few years, although I'm not sure we're quite as top heavy age wise as they were/are.

The references in various posts to Melbourne as "the shemons" display extraordinary wit and intelligence on the part of those Tigers'supporters. Breathtaking.

I'm also impressed that these 4 year olds are so computer savvy.

Some posters on this forum are no better with their use of such childish, cringeworthy terms as "Whorethorn", "West Coke", "Essendrug" and "Jeelong".

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
