Today I received my complimentary subscription to Watch AFL as an overseas MFC member (for those who aren’t aware, this is a fantastic subscription service that allows you to watch every game live and in replay, including the GF, but it only works outside Australia.

Does anyone know what resolution it streams at?  I’ve been wondering for a few years now and can’t seem to find any info on their website.

I’ve bought myself a new Apple TV 4K as a Christmas present and hoping it goes up to this resolution, although for some reason I doubt it does.

Merry Christmas all 🎄

Im pretty sure its 1080p or 720p.

But I think they've just added a new 'download' link to the seasons' games?  Id do it before the season 2022 rolls over because you cant watch games from previous years. ( Maybe its been there all along. )

That’s how I watch all the games. It’s brilliant (unless you download and watch off-line, when the resolution is poor). You’ll get access to all of the games from recent seasons. And all the Fox Footy shows like On The Couch and AFL 360.

Not so for my membership. I have been able to watch the previous two or three seasons. I haven’t updated the login for 2022 yet, but I expect the same to apply.

Dang NOW they do this!? I've just returned to Australia and would've loved this deal!

Oh nice, I never knew this existed! (the MFC overseas memberhip that is)

It seems to be cheaper to get the membership with the complementary pass than going via the 12 month Watch AFL subscription

I wonder how much of this goes to the club?

Unless I'm mistaken, it's determined by your internet speed (if in Auto mode), or limited by it if in manual mode.

Can this be watched with a VPN?

Yes it can.  (as of 2020, they might have cracked down recently), but if you're in Oz you might as well get Kayo

On the iPad and iPhone version I can watch all games back to 2017, but on the Apple TV it only has last year and this year.

I did a bit more internet sleuthing prompted by the comments above and found this on the website:

For the best quality streaming on the Watch AFL platform, you'll need a strong, consistent connection of at least 7.5Mbps.

And according to this summary of Mbps streaming rates, a 7.5 Mbps requirement would seem to imply a HD resolution of 1080p:

I suspect that the club must get a pretty significant discount on the RRP for Watch AFL subscription, as they must also for tickets that they include as part of their membership packages that include admission to home and/or away games at the G.

I hadn’t noticed this before, but I see there’s an $80 membership that basically gets you nothing but registration on the membership roll. I wonder if that amount is indicative of what a club would make across all membership options once the benefits are accounted for.

I too was unaware of this and am grateful for it being pointed out, (yet another benefit of Demonland.) A membership and a useful saving. Definitely a win-win.

Well I guess WatchAFL would be cheaper and it's basically Foxfooty on demand.  I definitely watched it using a VPN (set to a USA location) from Australia last year - no idea about this year.  Also used it from overseas for years prior to 2020.

Assume your problem with Kayo is the replays which are condensed. I doubt WatchAFL is much different as the source of the replays is probably the same.

The live streams on Kayo are quite good in HD. They might add a 4k premium sub in future years. More likely if Foxtel is sold as has been mentioned by NewsCorp.

Just checking here for subscribers that:

- people have received their codes

- the codes work (!). Got mine yesterday, but showing "voucher not valid".

I expect that I'll be in and out of Australia for the course of the upcoming season, though unlikely much in Melbourne bar maybe one or two matches at most. Previously had the membership-linked Watch AFL when living overseas, and am currently subscribed to Kayo while here. is there some solution where I can have constant access without forking out for both? Ideally while channelling money to the club rather than Rupert?

Received my voucher for 2022. I can confirm that the subscription covers past seasons’ games from 2017.

Hi FD.    Since installing my 2022 voucher on my iPhone I've NOT been able to watch any pre 2022 replays.  Frustrating with no footy to watch for months.
Crazy thing is, older replays have worked on my girlfriends computer (though I don't watch footy at her place)!?
Would love to get pre 2022 replays on iPhone though.   Cheers

Use a VPN whilst in Australia (dialed in to the Country where the subscription was joined)

How much is OS MFC membership?

I paid for the cheap joint MCC- MFC membership.
Now in SE Asia.
How does the MFC offer compare to WatchAFL $39/ month?

Cheers SWYL. Are you in Thailand at the moment? I'll be passing through soon if you fancy a catch-up?
