You're Ms 2021 to me !!

I bet you say that to every crazy Dees tragic who registers the 2022nd post in the Grand Final Post-match thread lamenting not having registered the 2021st post. 😃

Right now I’m halfway through the 2nd quarter of the prelim. Two observations:

1. If you can’t have Daisy for special comments, Leppa is the next best. And…

2. [censored] we’re good!

Rivers middle patch of the forst was really good, he was instrumental in Trac first.

Mayse was really annoyed with Lingers on the Dogs first goal as his opponent was unimpeded running into May, causing May some rib discomfort.

What’s with the “dugout” type fans section in Perth, seems a terrible view of the game. Any Dlanders had a view from below ground in there?

Damn you WCW; you've made me do the same. And I really should be getting some sleep.

There's more of that electric, one-touch, at-pace footy here, too. Who's gonna step up and do that highlights package? 😋

Beer guy. He did get to sit down - just. LOL.

Then, soooo quickly: "Not Max again! Are you kidding?!"

Sorry to shanghai the GF post game with PF stuff. But it's all part of the beautiful 9/21.

One thing I've enjoyed noticing more of on re-watching the GF are the signs, photos, etc., in the crowd, thanking people for tickets or showing the name of the person/family they're representing. Love it!

An anecdote from the finals.

A mate of mine who is a lifelong Cats supporter rang me after the PF to say, it doesn't matter who wins the other final or how much they win by, there is no way you will not win, you are that good..

Wish I was that confident, I was but not like that.

I was.
Was telling a bloke at work after the Prelim that I had never seen a more complete game from a Melbourne side .... Ever.
He reckoned we might've played our Grand Final a week too early.
"They won't play that well again." he declared.
"They won't have to." I told him.

Many said it'll be a close game as the Dogs had also easily won their Prelim.
Yeah they did, but they didn't do it like we did.
Also told any-one that come near me that we Melbourne supporters would be celebrating by 3/4 time.
Drinking in the last quarter.
Whenever I thought of the game in the 2 weeks lead up all I could see was Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and Jackson dominating the midfield blasting from the centre as they do.
Couldn't see Naughton and Weightman kicking more than a couple goals each amongst our AA backline.
And the dogs defence wouldn't stop our forward line fed by the mids.
Our side had no holes .... None.
Right down to the last player.

Hats off to the dogs for their 2nd quarter tho'.
They played well.
That wasn't in the plan at all and if I said I wasn't spooked I'd be lying but in the end that just made the comeback and destruction that followed even more glorious than I thought it'd be.
There is nothing better than watching your champions do exactly what you know they can do on the biggest stage of all.
I waited a long time for that Premiership but won't have to wait long for the next one.
Abit less than 11mths by my reckoning.

Go the Mighty Demons.

It has to be, it houses that big ol’ footy brain of his.

Yze was a very, very clever player for the Dees in his onfield days. Having sucked the life out of footballing ingenuity at Hawthorn as an assistant coach, it was time he came back home. He learned heaps with the Hawks in that role and combined those parameters with his own innovative ways (as a player) - the  '...Bang. Bang, bang, bang...' stirred my memories of the Yze brilliance; there is no doubt in my mind that he was behind our incredible finals performances and he was highly successful in relaying that methodology across the GFteam of the Century.

A thought  occurred  to me  when  watching  Fritter's two goals that started our revival.

Thank  heavens  we  didn't adhere to that silly habit  of  taking  players  off after  they kick a goal!  He was fired up after the first one , nearly  took a speccy then recovered like  lightning to get another, and we were on our  way! Very  inspiring !!

Is there a  lesson to be  learnt here?

Careful, Spirit; I think we're in the comfortable majority but the opposition voice is strong, though somewhat bilious, about those words. But we are all one for the vision!

I haven't watched or listened to every single different broadcast so a curiosity question:  Is there a better description of those 4 goals that encapsulate that moment so succinctly?

The real question here is… why not?!

Simple:  it is easiest to relax on the couch and watch the game on Foxtel and mute it when I know I won't like what is happening (which usually results in fast forwarding from qtr time to the 15 minute mark of the 3rd qtr) and I'm mesmerised all over again.  The vision never lets me down.

But when I know that there is a better commentary of that last minute, I'll happily go and listen/watch, again...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
