Carltons million dollar dud squad includes Cerra, Martin, and Saad!

I always thought Zac Williams was ordinary and heavily overpaid.

I thought Saad probably cost them the game last night, he panicked on a few occasions in the last 5 mins

He also pulled out of a few contests.

Sure did 'Red'...he's very outside.

...but I wonder if we can say this anymore with the focus on concussion.

The game is going to have to make some very big decisions going forward.

They weren't head down contests and tbh if we are now not to have contests, the game is over.

We can then create touch footy.

Bugger him, he couldn't even get to 25 possies for a same game multi last night...pffft

I'll admit that I may have got this one wrong and was very happy for us to trade some decent picks for him.

I remember a game against us in the wet three years back where he was super.  Had some wonderful passages where he setup a couple goals for Freo and I think he jagged one or two himself.  He looked like a future superstar.

That game seduced me that he was a star.

He definitely wasn't scared of the harder stuff at Freo.  I'm wondering if he's got a new role that is taking time to adjust to but not sure.

Pretty happy we didn't pick him up now but I wouldn't mind another couple young gun mids coming through.

One of them could have been though, the one were he toe poked the ball.

He didn't want to put his head down and get his body anywhere near or in line with it.

I understand why, but as a footballer in any division let alone AFL it's one where you would put your body on the line.

Is it asking too much these days?

I don't know 'Red', I know at the time I made a comment and a few seconds later so did Hodge.

I liken it to us when we traded for Lever.
Seemed overs at the time with Lever but Cerra seemed more reasonable.
Just another example of how we don’t really know what might happen

You have look at the Lever and May trade together.

In 2018 we were the easiest team to score against with OMac and Frost as our pillars. Some here like Binman fought to the death on OMac telling us what a superstar he was but it was clear that you need a first class defence to win a flag. We could score in 18 but were too easy to score against. We had an emerging midfield.

Were the lever and May trades worth it. You bet.

Yep, it reminds me of Chris Johnson (although I will accept that Cerra is better than that).
The one half decent game that he played was against Carltank, which suckered them into thinking that he could play. Don't worry that we delisted him, they clearly knew better 😁

As I understand we made a compelling case but didn’t have the currency to get the deal done. I’m pretty sure he would have been a success operating in our midfield.

Looking back at OMac and Frost as our key pillars now makes me shudder. I think we have to really invest in another KPB as May is on the wrong side of 30. He's going to be really difficult to replace as he was more than just a defender as we all know. There are only a few in the comp that could be considered similar - that is they play exceptionally well in the zone, 1:1 and can often initiate the rebound. It is what makes him so valuable. Tom Stewart really is the only other one that comes to mind that is a current player, Moore maybe as well.

its a consideration for this year's draft for sure.

Like being Melbourne’d back in the day except you’re a deadset f log.

When Jack Martin wanted to go to Carlton and Adam Cerra also we dodged a bullet as both were overpaid for what they bring to the table.

Disco Turner and Petty to carry out defence for years to come 😉

I do think May is training Petty to be his lieutenant

Turner is still unproven at AFL level so the jury is out. He has the traits but only time will tell whether he can live up to that potential.

Petty's natural talent is an intercept defender. I think he is above average 1:1 and will undoubtedly get better. I have questions on whether Petty can help setup the play though. Hard to tell as he's been in May's shadow, but hopefully you are right.

With our strong draft hand this year, if we can push into the Top 10, means we will get a crack at a decent KP player. I think we have reasonable stock in Jefferson and JVR up forward  and we have an abundance of midfielders, so it only makes sense to look at a KPB - we can always swing Petty forward if it works out. The only priority that would supersede this if you have x-factor player available at our pick, but its the wrong thread and wrong time of year to break out into a more in-depth discussion on this topic :)

Lever is one of the most vocal guys on the field, he will step up in the absence of May when it comes to organising the backline.

And we also have Jed Addams if he lives up to his Junior rating and at 196cm could be still growing. We need one of Disco, Kye or Jed to flourish in the backline.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
