Certainly has the credentials - a proud Tassie boy. Jack Reiwoldt has surprised me in his role. Tassie is in good hands.

I'm happy for Tasmania to have a team but I am very worried about their ability to be able to retain talent.
Tasmania has the highest amount of young men leaving their state out of any state in Australia, so much so that it's causing there to be a disproportionate amount of older generations.

As a young man, I would move anywhere in the country to play afl but I wouldn't move to Tassie.

I this has disaster written all over it, but I really hope I'm wrong as Tassie deserve a team and are a footballing state.

The exodus of younger men from Tasmania is in large part due to immigrants having served their time in a regional area. I catch Ubers rather than DIY and various Nepali/Indian/Pakistanis tell me of their travails.

Have you ever been to Tassie?

Each to their own and I guess like any club they will need good recruiters but I would have no issue with moving to Tasmania to play AFL. The lifestyle down there would suit me more than most places.

As mentioned previously, I'm the proud uncle of an AFLW captain who was part of the CBA negotiations.

They said there will be no problem attracting mid-career players looking to get further playing opportunities to Tasmania.

The attraction of a short drive to training compared to what players in Melbourne have to endure a factor as is the cheaper real estate. Geelong make the most of both these to attract and retain players.

It's going to be difficult to get enough of the cross bench to support the stadium so it looks like the team is dead.

Yep, just because the AFL HQ made an absolute mess of it doesn't mean the ambition is correct.

Karmichael Hunt. Israel Folau. Geezus.

As for Tassie, there have been so many promises and slipping schedules that even when there is a signed contract to look at I'll trust it about as much as a Submarine Procurement Agreement.

I've always believed in a massive boost to the second-tier competitions and feel like Tassie could have been well served by that, but I'm not Tasmanian and won't attempt to speak for what they want.

agree completely

I will believe it when they have $1 billion in the bank ready to shift dirt

It’s terrible. They should change their name to the Tasmanian Leprechauns.

I think it's a bit rich for any Melbourne supporter to argue about relocation of other clubs. Would you have been happy for either of the mergers with Hawthorn or North to have gone ahead and Melbourne as we know it to not exist? The arguments for or against North & GC are entirely different in any case and they shouldn't be grouped together IMO.

No we wouldn’t have been happy but it didn’t happen. But for those in favour of a 20 team competition play it out, how does it look? Round zero needs to go, byes in rd 2 need to go, a top 10 needs to go. Is there still a week off before the finals or do 1 to 6 rest up while 7 to 10 potentially play 5 finals in a row? There’s enough teams struggling at the moment now without adding two more teams to that mix. The hype of new teams will be short lived as more and more games become unwatchable. The game was right in implementing the AFLW but went to 18 teams too quickly, they would of been better off with 4 teams from Victoria and 1 from each of the other states until the talent pool was there. We don’t seem to learn as a game.

It's a step up from the original at least.

Wouldn't mind seeing it with just the hoops.

It's good I think. Better than GWS' corporate logo guernsey.

Big fan of the jumper and glad they are sticking with the Tassie state team colours. Feels like a real club as opposed to a franchise like GC and GWS

They have a Boag on the playing list but no Cascade. So much for the team representing all of Tasmania.

The logo part is too messy and is hard to work out what it is. Just go with the colours. No need for a big stupid logo in the middle of a jumper. There's too many of those on guernseys already.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
