Tasmanian AFL Team

Another thought: This crossed my path in Narawntapu NP, northern Tassie a couple of weeks ago. So Tassie Tigers does fit!

One more, I promise (and I really do think it's great there'll be a Tassie team. I've spent a good chunk of my life in that magical place):

For Hobart's famous funky art gallery:

I have a question for you.
You’re a Melbourne supporter and I assume member of some type? Would you switch to support Tassie? Will they be your second team? Will you buy a membership?

I am just really curious what will the Tasmanians who already have a strong bond to an existing club will do.

Hi Jaded,

Really good question, and something that I have been thinking about over the last couple of weeks. Would be interested to hear @Clintosaurus thoughts too.

I will buy a Tassie membership yes. Would my allegiance swap, I don't really know, but overtime, I suspect that it would probably.  That said, knowing that we had so many Tassie players (or tassie born players) being stars for the Demons over my years, it's pretty incredible to think that Lyon and Neitz were both Tassie born, we had the Febey twins, Andy Lovell, Russell Robertson, Ben Beams, Brad Green, Jeremy Howe, Garland, Lamprill. But there were players before that like Ray Groom, Stuart Spencer, Ivor Warne-Smith, MaX Walker, Bob Johnson...
Our club has had a strong linkage with Tassie players, as has St Kilda, Richmond and many of the Melbourne Clubs in truth. Riewoldt x 2, Peter & Paul Hudson, Alistair Lynch, Richo, ...
Anyway, I don't think I'd lose the fondness for Melbourne, but I think I would grow a strong attachment to the new team (plus working a 5 minute walk from Macquarie Point) is certainly appealing.

I think we should lobby the entire country for the removal of the ‘Tigers’ from Richmond and for it to be allocated to Tasmania.

But the team isn't named after the mythical devil, it's named after the animal

Correct, but the animal is named after the "devil" so the team is, indirectly I guess ... so I see where Beetoota are coming from. Gave me a chuckle anyway 🙂

The AFL have done an excellent job here.  They got the team up, they got all the clubs to agree, they got a new stadium and managed to get state and federal governments to pay for most of it.  Well done Gill.

The Tasmanian Greenbacks? Predominantly green and white possibly a Huon pine silhouette. Personally I think the mighty Demons should stand strong and defend our daemonic namesake,

I can’t imagine these similar examples being tolerated,

Saints / Angels,

Blues / Navy

Bulldogs / Dogs

Suns / Solar

Power / Bolts, Volts

Eagles / Sea eagles

Demons / Devils, it takes away from our brand, fight it !!

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b
