What has this got to with the continuing racial abuse of Aborigines?

Dieter, the title of this thread is "MFC player racially abused on social media - club statement"

Poor Kozzi. I’m glad Goody and the club are standing up against this BS

Why don't we teach people not to be savage, offensive, [censored], rather than try to teach people to cop it sweet and move on?

You can't do that without causing a mass genocide. Look how Germany went removing Jews. That is not the way to go.

You will never get 7 billion people to think the same until 7 billion people have a common intergalactic enemy.

Human nature is to be the best at all costs. You and I may not have the "at all cost" attitude but someone in the world's 7 billion population does and when we are all tra-la-la prancing in the daisy fields, this 1 in 7 billion will promise a group of people power and wealth and smear us into the earth.

Handling the internet may be criteria for player recruitment in the not so distant future.

Just throwing this in, you are never going to get rid of racism as long as society keeps segregating people.

We have Indigenous awards, why? Are they not equal to every other players? Are aboriginal people unable to compete with everyone else?

People want to blend in but also keep their identity without bringing misery to others. You show how this works and you have solved racism.

What is the segregation you are referring too and what indigenous awards are you referring too?

And Daisycutter made a good argument, I acknowledged this.

Oh my apologies, I didn’t see that part.

I studied Australian history right through to year 12 in the 1990's and there was almost no mention of Aboriginal history except as a side note to European colonialism.

I sure as hell hope it has changed.

Well, Stiff Arm won’t see this since I believe he has me on ignore but if anyone else is interested… my 16yo son is in Year 10, and while it appears that the Australian History curriculum  now incorporates a level of Indigenous Culture study, it’s still not as comprehensive as it could/should be.
Interestingly enough, currently in his Sociology studies they are covering racism, and in particular racism and the AFL.
Just a couple of days ago he told me his class watched an awesome documentary (online schooling) and he said to me, “have you heard of a guy named Adam Goodes?” (Bless his lil heart😊) The doco he’d just watched was The Final Quarter and it was followed up with in-depth discussion, teacher and students. I was delighted to hear that. It’s no doubt a step in the right direction.

Where is the racism in my comment?

We all support MFC, that's what brings us together but as you start to delve into the character of each supporter you are going to find differences. Differences you will not agree with.

What was said about Kossi by this person is wrong but you get stuck in a vicious circle with internet trolls. They want recognition for their work. You should ignore them, don't give them recognition, but you have to talk about it because "call out racism".

I think a few of you are missing the point I am making here.

Humans are competitive, they bring down anyone they fear or have a jealousy towards. They do their best to bring them down.

In 2021, South Africa is not the Utopia you are looking for.

The greater problem than the faceless social media racist trolls, is the people that don’t understand how and why they are being racist.

the people that don’t take the time to educate themselves and empathise with the unnecessary pain and trauma of racism.

Not naming any names.

I’ve pulled away from this thread for a while.

However, talk of ‘tolerance of intolerance’, examples of blatant trolling, framing of ‘people being too sensitive’ and certain barely dog whistled statements have led me to post this video before just observing for a day or two. It’s emotionally exhausting (but essential work).

So rather than type out something extensive, I’ll open the floor to Ms. Natalie Wynn (aka Contrapoints) to respond to certain assertions made in this thread.

If you are an anti-racist/fascist, I plead for you to watch this for intelligence and strategy purposes at the very least.

And if this triggers you because she is a trans woman and a socialist, then good.

I hope you have a conniption.

P.S. I could be considered a good example of Godwin’s Law by posting this. I understand that. However, my intentions, if you listen to the bit about Alt-Right strategy, is to highlight why the free speech absolutist argument is twaddle against organized and freestyle bigots.

And if you consider yourself opposed to my position, don’t just read the video title and hysterically scream I’ve called you a fascist. Watch the entire video, and then if you feel that her description hits a bit too close to home, then maybe you should think about the [censored] that’s coming out of your [censored]ing keyboard

Aborigines

That term is anachronistic at best.

More broadly - and i say this knowing that many people don’t punctuate properly online - the word ‘Indigenous’ should always be spelled with a capital I when referring to people.

It’s great to see @Colin B. Flaubert, @deanoxand others articulating the case so clearly, and not giving up on the discussion - this is what Eddie Betts is imploring all of us to do as allies.

Repeating empty platitudes and saying the right thing isn’t enough; it takes persistence and patience and hard work to change hearts and minds.

So you're pointing the finger at me for using 'anachronistic' terminology and punctuation????And, presumably, for 'repeating empty platitudes'? ??? Wow! I would have though you might be sending this message to some of the people who argue strenuously against C.B and Dox, but no, you chose to focus on for  me for the 'letter' of your law - after all, you are The Moderator - instead of the spirit of my posts. I'm not surprised because you and I  have form in this regard. Great to see you're still in form, Grapeviney.

I don’t think @Grapeviney was saying that you were doing that, Dieter. I took his statement as highlighting the long struggle and endurance required, not as a crack at you.

As for the first part, he is correct, and I don’t think he was scalding you particularly harshly either.

Until I began associating with BLM and other anti-racist groups, I spelled ‘Black’ with an undercase lettering. It didn’t  make me a moral reprobate. Once I noticed I was, I simply stopped. No biggie. ☺️ We all aren’t necessarily au fait with all conventions at all times.

Wow 🤩 i never thought i would see a video such as that on Demonland!!

Very well put together btw.

Trump put Racism back on the map for at least 50 years. (Charlottesville)

It was a very scary time, which is still rolling…

Reading some of the absurd historical revisionism by some of the posters here is probably enough to push moderate readers into becoming conservatives.

Especially those trying to impose 2020 morals & standards on previous generations and historical events.

I always thought that part of Trump's appeal was a reaction to the more bats$h!t crazy views of the extreme left. Plenty are alive & well on Demonland.

So you got nothing racist... typical. Another so ready to call someone a racist and you ask them to show where and they give the typical " if you can't see it I'm not going to waist my time in showing you". 🙄

Your posts are there for everyone to see (including yourself).

If you can't see any issues, I fear I am not equipped to rehabilitate you.

That is all.

Take Care.

The point I am making in this thread is you are handling the internet trolls incorrectly. You can't stop the trolls making comments because they always find a way. You need to educate the players, give them the foundation to handle the talk. No it's not easy or a perfect solution and it's not the result alot of you will agree with. Don't talk about what the trolls say and they will get bored and move on.

Hahahahaha

The irony here is completely overwhelming.

Nah, we won't agree to disagree, I'm going to keep holding you to account.

I (and others) are telling you that people can discuss ANY topic without offending if a) you are respectful and b) you are not trying to impose your moral/ethics on someone else.

You say that offending each other in  discussion is unavoidable, but can't explain a reason why or a situation that doesn't fall into a) or b) above.

I've been quite specific, the obfuscation is at your end. Either provide an example where offence is unavoidable (should be easy according to you) or accept that you're wrong.

You may not realise or accept it, but your current line of argument is actually part of the problem that we are all trying to fix.

Authoritarian statement above.

'we are all trying to fix', who is 'we', and what are you 'trying to fix'? Are you another champion of 'anti racism'?

The vast majority of people are anti racism, and are anti racist's who oppose racism without virtue signalling the fact.

There is still racism is our society, and I imagine in almost all societies of the world. We should strive for equality together.

So many sanctimonious posts on Demonland lately like 'we need to be more then anti racist'. Racism is a human frailty that hysterical keyboard behaviour, or actions isn't going to solve.

Was thinking exactly the same thing.

Trolling gold. All the classic tropes.

Even the Nazis get a run.

It is actually quite heart-warming to see posters try and help others learn how to handle trolls properly by providing so many opportunities to practice doing so.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
