Our mindset is all wrong.

when we play the bottom teams it should be to outĀ tackle and pressure them not to outĀ finesse themĀ

^ This. When we play a [censored] team we start by trying to get a feel for the game (ie. seeing if we can get away with the win without the requisite effort). The opposition pounces and we end up looking like utter flogs. Tonight looked a bit different. Our intent was there for the first quarter (unlike v Adelaide, Coll, GWS). After a respectable lead at quarter time,Ā  we went back into cruise mode. WTF??

We seriously cant be soooo stupid as to think, we'll get away with a win with half arsed efforts. The question is why? The first things that spring to mind (apart from being as dumb as a box of rocks) is arrogance and fatigue. I think it's a combination of both. Exhaustion for the younger players and arrogance for the older players. I also wonder if there's something in their preparation in the week leading up to the game, that results in the game being taken lightly yet AGAIN! FMD

Ā

We won nearly every stat, disposals, inside 50ā€™s, contested, hit outs, clearances, time in possession, shots on goal but they had more tackles, free kicks and were more accurate on goal. We were likely out coached, their game style and delivery forward negated May and Lever strengths and they were able to play around Gawn in the second half. Our finals opponents will be noting all this surely. Adelaide and the Pies have both found us out delivering the ball fast and low to closeĀ targets inside 50 for some reason the best sides have been happy to take our strengths head on but without success.Ā

No, not ideal, was it? Iā€™m sure weā€™ll bounce back, though. Cheers for answering my question. ?ā¤ļø?

Has T Mac nailed a set shot at the MCG since the Sydney win?Ā

I thought BBB was quite poor tonight with just 1.1.

Canā€™t expect to win too many games when our 2 key forwards kick 2 between them.

If Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling are kicking 2 between them, you can pretty much assume that West Coast have lost.

I just feel that your genius is wasted on us dummies. Why bother? Youā€™ve done what you can. Maybe itā€™s time to moveĀ on to bigger things. Dustin Fletcher Hanger? Or just a sabbatical?Ā

I think Dr.D has even surpassedĀ  the biggest clowns on thisĀ forum. He's one in a million.

Lucky for us we have to worry about the bottom 10 teamsĀ in finals ?Ā

I canā€™t believe Iā€™m even wondering if we were better off not taking advantage from the Viney free and kicking to Pickett.Ā

That's exactly the problem!

Never seen our back 6 so shaky.. every time it went in, I was sure they would score.. May looked like a debutantĀ

They just weren't switched on after quarter time. Just thought it would happen Hawthorn had other ideas. The bombing into the forward 50 was diabolical Stafford should be sacked.Ā

I'm not one of the happy clappers. I've enjoyed our successes but have been fully aware of our shortcomings. Chiefly our deplorable structure & system inside 50 and our new-found weakness at stoppages.

However it concerns me greatly that someone's insecurity has them constantly posting on an anonymous fan forum to give themselves pats on the back. And to admonish those who don't enthusiastically join in with the Dr. D back patting.
I hope UROK.
If on the other hand you are just a narcissist and an harsehole (silent first h), I'm still prepared to help you out.

A range of options but the Blonde Block Full Length Mirror is 30% off. I believe they'll deliver in lockdown.

There you go son, either use it to aid your narcissistic tendencies or to, in the words of the Couldabeens "have a good hard look at yourself"

You know this all started because I said I thought we would come 5th since we lost to Collingwood and it was you guys that were admonishing me. Just for own opinion. So that is the only reason that I'm not letting it go. Because you incorrectly interpreted my opinion for trolling when in fact it was a calculated opinion which is becoming more accurate by the week.

Was it may that was on Lewis at the start of the 4th? yes, he got easy supply but why was he 5m behind him on the lead. Frustrating.

I havenā€™t come in here since the match thread because I needed to decompress. I will say this; at least we got the draw which is what we should have got against Adelaide.Ā

But this much closer to a loss than a win, the players should be having a good long hard look at each because right they are deciding when they are and arenā€™t going to play properly. The moment we got out to our 26 point lead they stopped playing properly, they paid the Hawks zero respect and have paid the price. Our kicking for goal has been poor this year and in recent weeks it has caught up to us. Brayshaw should have dobbed his at the end, Brown should have kicked his in the first quarter, and we had entrance after entrance into the forward 50 that was to a big pack situation where no one was going to mark it. Weā€™ve gone backwards since the start of the year with forward connection, but whatā€™s infuriating is we keep doing the same f-ing Ā thing!

We as fans ask for respect from the media but performances like that prove we havenā€™t earned it yet. We didnā€™t look like top 4 contenders tonight, we didnā€™t even look like a top 8 threat. Once again the competition has a laugh at us, we are yet again a joke.Ā

Fabulous welcome home, this makes quarantine fun. ?

Is it possible the poor teams weā€™ve lost/drawn to have specifically adjusted their game plan going inside 50 to prevent the high bombs to Lever and May, combining dirty ball with smart low passes.

How often did we see May and Co get beaten on a lead in the Pies and Hawks games.

Meanwhile Essendon (who areĀ clearlyĀ better than Collingwood and Hawthorn) are on record as refusing to change up their method for one isolated game which subsequently resulted inĀ themĀ continually bombed it high for most of their inside 50ā€™s.

Perhaps the same applies for the top teams whereĀ theyā€™ve backed in theyā€™re existing tactics against ours.

Have a farkin sook. Get over it. If we finish 5th it looks like the only person that will be happy is you and that is disgraceful. It was a kick in the guts tonight but the beauty of football is we can make amends the next week. This was directed at you Dr.d

Anyone else notice we tend to stink after 9 day breaks? Yet off 5 or 6 days breaks weā€™re golden. Itā€™s like this group is better off when they roll on through battle hardened and too long of a break is like ring rust. I donā€™t know.

Hahaha. I think you'll find your self-adulatory posting had its genesis long before the Collingwood game. I've no problem with your opinion nor your analysis. It carries no more or less weight than anyone else's on an anonymous fan forum. But your neediness is concerning. Help is out there. Seek it.

You called me a troll when I said we'd finish 5th because you guys couldn't fathom the idea that we could finish 5th. I had done my research and I looked at all the teams and who they were playing and looked at our form and came up with 5th. So I've now proven that my prediction is the most accurate because you guys couldn't even stomach the idea that coming 5th was within the realms of possibility.Ā

Who did you predict to win last week against Port?

Who did you predict to win against the Dogs and the Lions?

I may be wrong, but asĀ I recall, it wasnā€™t us.

Yep, youā€™re a genius.

We don't make amends next week. that's the whole point. The only thing that makes amends is a win against the dogs, Geelong or wce in Perth.Ā

Ā

So much for the MCG being a fortress. Lost to GWS, drew with Hawks, barely got over the Bombers.

Can people stop quoting Dr D I have him on ignore so I don't see his rubbish.

Agree with those who were disgusted with Oliver's reaction when Spargo marked it. How is that team first mentality? When was the last time you kicked a set shot goal mate?

Kozzie needs coaching on his set shots his run up is no good

The Cats in their glory days of 2007-2011 focused on crushing teams early so they could cruise at the end. We just want to cruise from the get go.

I think my neediness is as much as a concern as everyone's bias towards this club. They are so blinded by their loyalty that they can't see the forest for the trees. and that annoys me. It's like a kid making the same mistake time and time again.Ā

But don't worry, Gold Coast is in the bag and we'll lock in a top 2 spot! Ā :S

It was irritating that the commentators so clearly favoured Hawthorn. My favourite was the post-game excitement about the 'young talent' at Hawthorn. Our 22 was younger than theirs and most of their younger players were also their least effective.

But, meh. Learnings. The way Hawthorn played will provide a valuable lesson for finals. Better to get a draw in round 18 than having to play extra time in a preliminary final.

Ā

Ā

A very interesting point about experience and games played.Ā  I thought we were lucky to get the 2 points.Ā  It's bizarre how we looked absolutely cooked half way through the 3rd and looked out of it early in the 4th off a 10 day break.Ā  I thought we were going to lose by 4 goals.Ā  Hopefully the two points are as good as a win by seasons end.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old sideā€”the Tigersā€”coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking?Ā I mean by ā€œtheyā€ the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.Itā€™s no secret that the Demonsā€™ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.Ā Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryanā€™s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningĀ 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
