Top of the table and beating the top contender and we’re sooking about not enough media attention? Cmon guys

If we got talked up lots we’ve be worried about too much attention and getting carried away.

there is no hate out there. Just enjoy the win and being top. They’ll find it hard not to write about us when we make the GF!

I watch Fox Footy, never the commercial networks and they're on about us constantly. Looking forward to 360 tomorrow night and On The Couch. The latter will involve Gaz and Healy fapping each other off over our performance. Love it.

David King showed a bit more down the ground footage on First Crack tonight too involving our defensive set up. He's all over us, but isn't screaming from the rooftops just yet. You can tell he's reading the stats and analysing our performances and thinking if this was just about any other team, I'd be backing them for the flag. He's still got the Dogs as his flag favourites, but if we can knock off Brisbane this week and the Dogs stumble a bit over the next few weeks, I think he might get on us for the flag too. He's just burnt by 2019.

Statistically though, our defence is in world record areas for intercepts (Lever has the most intercepts to Round 11 that have ever been tracked by Champion Data as per King tonight), we're structurally really difficult to break down and almost impossible if we bring a four quarter effort.

Further, as much as I hate the betting commentary that has infiltrated the media landscape this year on Fox Footy, Daisy Thomas for Sportsbet said we're now into $4.50 flag favourites. The hype is huge on FOX.

Tony Jones said he received a text message from an angry Neil Mitchell and assured viewers they were going to review the game in full later on and there would be an interview with a Melbourne player. Then, nothing! It’s a disgrace the lack of respect for the team on top of the table. They are still happy to heap praise on the Dogs who “will learn from the loss and be better for it”. Billy keeps reminding everyone that Geelong will be there on Grand Final day, despite them playing the ugliest game in years yesterday. We are getting next to no attention. It doesn’t fit the narrative. We’ve been a media punching bag for years.

Two hours of my life I won't get back. And an investment I will not make again.

The worst thing was that, after receiving that text and assuring us that later in the show there would be the detail you referred to, Pickett, as he closed the show, Jones had the gall to say "The Melbourne game we covered in detail earlier", as if the assurance had been delivered on. An unashamed lie.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent...

Stuff the media. It is about the bucks for them.

It is why we get the Sunday games regularly anyway, and so few friday nights over the decades.

Fox covers us because lots of MFC supporters can afford the subscription.

Free to air pander to the largest supporters base.

I still remember, on a show about footy, the host saying, we won't talk about Melbourne until they beat a top 8 side back in 2018.

They don't want to talk about us in extended or elaborate ways.

It is great that the MFC are so accommodating to them with always offering players to interview.

I wonder what the media would do if we shut the shop on them, did the bare minimum according to the contracts and just concentrated on footy for the rest of the year.

Make our own in house shows, with a devils advocate for the oppositions view.

I’ve mentioned it on here before, but with no crowd present, Levers leadership on field was even more noticeable. He’s the general out there, like an onfield coach similar to Luke Hodge back in the Hawks prime. Those types of leaders are worth their weight in gold. Look at how well organized we are defensively out there this year, and he’s a prime driver of that. He barely had a voice by the end of the match when Richardson interviewed him!

Just a shout out to Jake. Having a great season, but also proving to be the leader we hoped he’d be.

I could hear him clearly on the TV.

Very very demanding leader who expects 110% from everyone. I use to rate Nick Maxwell as one of the more demanding captains going around at the time they won the 2010 flag.

He was very directive and vocal and it was as clear as daylight. Those types of leaders are absolutely just worth their gold.

I actually don't care though. Keep undnerstimating the Dees and send the hype elsewhere.

Zero MFC vs the Dogs highlights in the AFL site 10 best moments of Round 11.

They showed some behind the goals footage last night on Fox of Lever's positioning and reading of the play.

Sometimes it can all be a bit much, particularly when Matthew Richardson is babbling on about anything as he was with Lever, but in this case I think it's all very much accurate. I think Lever's role in our back half and his leadership back there is critical to our success.

A shout out also to May, Petty and Tomlinson though, as their ability to lock down on forwards this year has helped us keep Lever free.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent...

I'm on such a high horse about this, I've just unprecedentedly messaged 3AW asking if Neil Mitchell is going to call Jones out for his disrespect of Melbourne (and Mitchell) (and their 'professions'...). Didn't ask for on-air response - wouldn't hear it anyway; not go-to radio for these 'Aunty' ears...

You know there are other shows you can watch that cover great football content right?

Emailing a  national radio station venting about the fact they didn't cover off on a Melbourne game is a bit extreme don't you think??

First crack on FOX is one of my favourites. Also can't wait to watch On The Couch with the boys picking apart the game.

It's no surprise our backline has been strong with two of our very best leaders down there in May and Lever, one who has captained a club in his own right, and the other who's going to be right up there for being our next captain.

It's hard to blame people for not trusting the MFC. until we're lifting the cup, it's possible people won't fully jump on the wagon.

though if we account for the Lions in similar fashion to the Dogs our credentials will be undeniable.

Thanks, Dazzle; yes I do, but being an old-fart non-Foxer and regional (i.e. sparrows-fart edition) paper-version paper reader, 'that' show was the first opportunity of visual reporting of Friday night's delightful outcome. My viewing was a one-off and, as per my original post, it shall remain that way!?

And I did restrain from venting there (though I did own up to venting here!?) - I just asked. Also, my beefs were not about the actual non-reporting; they were that Jones falsely dangled a 'stay with us' hook and lied at the end that they had delivered.

And I did acknowledge I was on that less-than-admirable (as in 'Get off your...) high horse' ?

Just watching the pre game show on Fox Footy.

Dermott couldn’t be less impressed with us if he tried.

Said we only won it because the Dogs continually turned it over in the first quarter and then went on to praise the Dogs as they broke even with us after qtr time.

He then went on to say that we had a bunch of players in rare form and implied that it’s not going to be sustainable come September.

Perhaps Derm would like the game played over three quarters, or perhaps all clubs should play four quarters with the best quarter deducted from their score.

If we win the flag Derm will probably suggest we were once again lucky and we will not be able to sustain the form to the next Grand Final.

Part of our worshipping of the MFC is we crave adulation, especially when we are winning. Adulation helps justify our mostly irrational support of our club. When we don't get enough of it we take it as a personal afront even a conspiracy against our club.

For me the adulation is there. After Friday night I listened for over an hour Garry Lyon, Nick Riewoldt and Jonathan Brown rave about the Demons including an insightful interview with Steven May. After that I heard Nick DalSanto and  Joe Montagna thoroughly analyse our win. I've heard Matthew Lloyd and others praise our defensive structures, plus numerous radio commentators disect our win. And in the last two or three days I've heard from May, Petracca, Oliver, Fritsch, Petty, Harmes and Goodwin.

Perhaps I'll need to watch On the Couch tonight to see if I'm missing anything!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
