Oh how the tides have turned. This disruption so close to game time is not great. Given they have had the main run, what else is usually done around the club between main training session and game day? At least Doggies will be in the same position as us.

Disruption would more likely be mental than physical.

Just need Chief Wiggum to take a carton of durries to the testing lab.

It hasn’t got a patch on round 1 last year though.
I think the players (like all of us) have become somewhat conditioned to dynamic.

Rehab group still have contact with other players and staff who then in turn have contact with other players and staff.

For this not to be an issue in regards to playing this match on Friday as scheduled it has to be a player who has zero contact with other players and staff or they all return a negative result. Having said that even returning a negative result might not be enough given that this virus sometimes doesn't show up till a few days later and presumably they've all be tested just today.

Just ask Wollert man...

Could they not have spared 700 vaccines and get the players vaccinated FFS.

Has Marty Hore been seen at BBQs Galore?

that is the first symptom of covid

Exactly. However I was under the impression that he perhaps caught it in HQ after his final test on day 13.

Thats exactly what it was.

Why is everyone so keen for this game - and round - to go ahead? In terms of ladder position and outside of finals, this is one of our most keenly anticipated matches in years. Now both teams have had significant disruptions, and the match will be played in an empty stadium without a crowd. I've personally lost all interest, and I say this with having no prospect of attending the game live to begin with.

Why not just bring the bye forward and give it a week to see what happens, while also helping to minimise the risk of exposure to players - which could disrupt the competition to a much greater degree. ? Other recent snap lockdowns have proven successful, and we may just get crowds allowed in and $$$. Instead, our players have to wait till gameday to see if the match is even going ahead. I understand the AFL's get-as-many-games-done-when-you-can mentality last year, but this is a completely different situation.

I agree. The game if it goes ahead will be more like an experiment or a circus.

Totally in keeping with AFL culture I would have thought.

The AFL has asked Richmond to spend the next 3 weeks playing interstate, moving the blockbuster Dreamtime game to Perth.  The AFL would not surrender that game from the G lightly.  One could be forgiven for thinking they have a 'heads up' from the Vic gov't that this time the covid lockdown might go on for a while.

That we have gone straight to Stage 3 lockdown, which wasn't the case in the last two 'mini' lockdowns, also hints that this time lockdown might be prolonged.

I can't see it not being prolonged. There is no way they will know in a week if the lockdown has been effective. Even if the case numbers come down or level out. They will need to wait a week or maybe even 2 to make sure.

Actually, a bloody good idea.

Agreed.  I was referencing to the poster's comment on success of other recent lockdowns with restrictions promptly lifted, implying the same will happen this time.  This time is different.

I'm sure the government didn't announce a longer lockdown to not upset everyone.

This time we all need to get used to being locked up again for at least a few weeks.
