Saw this in the Premiers covid update:

"The Premier said the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, scheduled for April, would likely have crowds made up exclusively of people who were fully vaccinated".

Not sure if that is encouraging for attending the football or not...

...unfurling the flag without fans (or limited numbers) doesn't bear thinking about.

They announced a gig at the myer music bowl for 4000 double vaxed people for next weekend.

I wonder if that suggests once we get to 80% double vaxed the MFC could say have 10, 000 or more double vaxxed members at the g (on the ground ie outside) for a GF replay and player presentation?

Right before the player's go on their Xmas break would be an awesome present to fans and a great buzz for the players

That would be awesome but we have 50,000+ members!  Who misses out?

The other question is how many of those 50,000+ are double vaxxed?

5 replays?

I would guess it is in line with the Vic average; around 70% heading for 80% so currently 35,000 heading to 40,000 members.

Very expensive gigs when all costs considered.

And do the players want to be presented 5 times to paltry crowds.  They deserve the full shebang of a packed house of the demon faithful that they worked so for, to bring the cup home.

I think he meant to say would likely have ONLY vaccinated crowds.

50k or nothing imo !

"NO JAB, NO PLAY: AFL releases vaccination policy"

Now just waiting for a dummy spit from Tom McDonald.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/685424/no-jab-no-play-afl-releases-vaccination-policy

"Clubs will have several options to address players who choose not to get vaccinated:

- including putting the player on the inactive list on reduced pay
- keep the player on their playing list on reduced pay
- terminate the player's contract with their agreement
- or terminate the player's contract without their agreement but not before May 18, 2022"

At least it is clear. Some hide behind state advice for venues and the like that constantly changes.

looks like you spat it when you included this line in your post.

I didn’t want to start a new thread, but perhaps it is deserving of one. With announcements today by the Premier, that we are aiming for 80k by Boxing Day at the G and that by November 24th we are looking at 90% Vaxx rates, is it time for the club to start planning the celebration at the MCG for Victorian members. There was a lot of noise about this from the club early on after the Premiership, but things have gone a little quiet, obviously waiting to see how things were unfolding.

So, what does Dee-Day at the G look like? A seated replay with food and drink packages? Usual seats? Players in their playing kits? Presentation of the cup at the end with a lap of honour? Merchandise stores in Yarra Park? Kick to kick on the G after?

Fire away with ideas….

Someone on another thread this arvo has said a date has been selected, that being Sunday the 5th of December.

Great, so clubs will probably still have to quarantine in WA between rounds 1 and 15, despite the rest of Australia being opened up.

Hopefully we don't need to travel there in the early rounds.

I doubt that even the AFL would be into allowing the tail to wag the dog.

Unless WA allows restriction free entry into WA by other teams the Perth teams will be headed for Brisbane or Adelaide until he does.

Tasmania perhaps but that would upset Hawthorn

That worries me.

When we win the flag next year it will always have an asterix given only 16 teams played.

Plus we don’t want to restrict games at our new home away from home - Optus Stadium

In all seriousness, one of the unintended, really positive, consequences of having to play the GF at Optus is that for this group of players heading across to play the Eagles and Freo will be a complete joy and a trip they will look forward to, not far.

Imagine the vibe and the buzz of playing on the ground where you had beaten West Coast late in the season, trounced the Cats in a prelim then experienced the ultimate football dream in winning a grand final. Bliss

And the booing?

Well for one, that may well feel juts like a curio to players now - bring it on.

And two we might well have more dees fans in WA now - even if it is freo fans supporting us against the Eagles and vice versa.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
