First player to come out to not being vaccinated - in the AFLW, but I'm sure we'll see some in the men as well.

https://www.womens.afl/news/74985

The most shocking thing about this, is who it is and what she does/did for a job outside of footy - seriously she's an ICU nurse who in this article says she'd done a lot of education into Covid??  https://anmj.org.au/afl-player-and-icu-nurse-deni-varnhagen-on-footy-and-working-in-healthcare-in-unpredictable-times/

It would be easy to read the news and twitter and think we have a big problem looming with Vax rates and mandates.

We don't.

Soon - maybe by xmas, Oz will have more than 90% of over 16s double vaxxed. We will be in the top 5 countries in the world for coverage.

And mandates?

The police force is probably relatively representative of the community in terms of the spectrum of views on vaccination and mandates.

There are 21,399 police officers and PSO’s in Victoria.

43 are not vaccinated, and were suspended as the mandate came into force.

0.2%

Houston- we don't have a problem.

Which is one of the reasons why this one-off case is so harmful. She has a platform and visibility and the optics here ("nurse refuses jab") are appalling in terms of the public-health message that's needed. At least pleased to see her club come out and encourage people to get vaxxed.

I just don’t understand how a health care professional who studied science and medicine can refuse to get vaccinated.
You don’t deserve to look after people’s health if you don’t understand or believe in science.
All of my friends who are in healthcare are literally waiting to be given the green light to get their booster shots. That’s how committed most healthcare workers are to protecting themselves and their patients. And so they should be!

Don’t stress bing.

increasing media stories of anti-vaxxer deaths, will over-power this young ladies attention seeking efforts.

Adelaide should consider sacking her.

She may have been compromised by her treatment of injury  if it involved other drugs.

But does seem a little confusing.

I assume she simply will not be allowed to play?

She certainly won't be able to play in Victoria (unless she has a confirmed medical exemption). Not sure whether other States and Territories have, or will have, a similar Government reqirement. Then she also has to satisfy whatever requirements AFLW or AFL* puts in place.

*Note: This means Gil's mob. This is another example of why there will inevitably be a name change for the men from AFL to AFLM (or MAFL). There needs to be a way to differentiate clearly between AFL as a corporate body in charge of football of all types and the men's competition.

Apparently whilst she isn't required to get a vaccine to play sport in SA, she will be required to get vaccinated to continue working as a nurse by November 1st. So lets see how it plays out.

Saw this in the Premiers covid update:

"The Premier said the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, scheduled for April, would likely have crowds made up exclusively of people who were fully vaccinated".

Not sure if that is encouraging for attending the football or not...

...unfurling the flag without fans (or limited numbers) doesn't bear thinking about.

Lack of critical thinking is a general populace issue but it’s striking when present in a cohort that has critical thinking as part of its accreditation

It appears only vaccinated (and unvaccinated kids) will be at the footy at least at commencement. Given the majority are vaccinated I dont think numbers will be an issue

I have little doubt only vaccinated people will be allowed at the football.

The part of the Premier's statement that was less than encouraging were the words the GP "would likely have crowds".

Have you seen your belief stated somewhere by the Premier?

We live in a world gone nuts at present Premiers. The only thing I am certain of is that the sun will rise tomorrow. Wether I am alive and everything else is yet be decided.

The Premier's statement (which I'm reading solely in the context of the post I've quoted) is ambiguous, although I don't believe that would have been the Premier's intention. The use of "likely" might have been intended to signify that having any crowd was likely. However, it could have been used to mean that it would be "likely" that only people who are double vaxxed would be allowed to attend. On my first reading, I had assumed he meant the latter. And having now read it a few times, I'm still of that view. If that's correct, I assume crowds will be allowed at AFL games, but that only double vaxxed people (plus possibly those with legit medical exemptions) will be allowed in.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
