but that doesn’t happen in an AFL Season does it, for and against  changes each week, and with the amount of games played the differential gets smaller, unless there is are huge blowouts

Well we played like absolute [censored].

But I think its mostly that we lost our new found gun defender Tomlinson for the season.  Even that alone is enough to be depressed.

Oh and Fritsch will probably cop a week and miss a huge Saturday night blockbuster.

Time up for Melksham. Avoided contact which cost us today. We can't accept that if we want to transform into a consistently competitive football club.

I think you can put this game down to a performance we had to have. We should all be thankful it happened against one of the weaker sides in the competition, hence we still came away with the four points. It has also been a historic grave yard for us ie playing norf in Tasmania. 
 

Hopefully we should be much better at the “G”, although our record against the Swans has been pretty abysmal as well. Very much a danger game for us next Saturday, particularly as the Swans seem to be hitting a purple patch. I also think B. Brown will be much better at the “g”. He would need to be as today’s performance was well below par.

It gets progressively more difficult to increase / decrease percentage as the denominator and numerator numbers get bigger.

The overall points differential between 150 / 100 (Game 1) is much lower than say 1500 / 1000 (Game 10) even though both are the same percentage – 150%

Winning Game 2 by say 100 - 50 increases overall points for and against to 250 / 150 meaning a percentage of 167%. Winning Game 11 by the same margin increases points for an against to 1600 / 1050 which results in a percentage of 152%. The winning margin in both instants is the same but the proportional increase in percentage is different being 17% v 2%.

Rufus, I think I heard we flew in today which isn’t ideal. 
We have won 6 in a row and coming off a massive win last week. 
I normally don’t provide reasons or excuses for our performance but we did fight back and WON. 

This is something we wouldn’t have done in previous seasons. 
 

If we continually lack intensity for the next couple of matches I will be worried. 
 

Today was always a danger game and I am just glad we won

Yes that is exactly why a lot of people do not understand how % on a week to week basis

I forget what our percentage before the game was, but let’s say it was 160. That means we have kicked, on average, 60%  more than the opposition. (For every 100 kicked against us, we’ve scored 160.) 

To maintain that percentage, we have to continue to kick 60% more than the opposition. Today we kicked 103 to 73. The percentage from today’s game is 103/73x 100. That’s 141.1% for today ‘s game. Now because that is less than the going-in percentage of 160, the overall percentage must come down. QED.

On reflection, it's because we've always being concerned about merely wins and losses over 56 years, not the nuances of %, because the % has never mattered!! (except in the final game in 2017...WTF)

Random thoughts: 

Thought Gawn really struggled today. We looked better when LJ was in the ruck.

Structure down back looked broken without Tomlinson, and better when TMac went back to play on Larkey. Definitely need another tall now with Tommo out, just a question of TMac  (Weid in) or Petty. 

This version of North might suck but nobody told Ben Cun*ington that we’re not their punching bag anymore. He had us over a barrel again today.

More Dees fans at Blundstone than North, or at least we were louder. Had a middle aged guy with French visitors sitting behind me who was clearly only a part time Dees watcher. By the end he was calling me The Authority because I kept correcting him every time he said the wrong player. All in good fun though.

Fritsch was the only forward who looked genuinely dangerous today. Outstanding game, looked a class above.

Kozzy looks better in the flesh than on TV. Gun.

I was hoping to see what I’d learn by watching Melksham live today that might make me understand why everyone bags him so much and I’m none the wiser. He’s definitely only just going and hanging on to his spot by a thread, but he wasn’t “terrible”. He wasn’t even the worst in the team - that prize goes to ANB who really struggled today, but has a few credits in the bank.

That game showed me where we are at more than any other game this year, including last week. The best teams still find a way, even when they are playing as badly as possible. We saw that today.

Even when we were terrible for so long, we still managed to beat good teams sometimes. There's something to be said for the freedom of having zero expectations on you. North played as good as I've seen them in ages. 
 

We bank the 4 points and move right along. We can't play our best every week, I'm just thankful that we're good enough to still win when we don't. We would have dropped that game 100% of the time any other year, including 2018.

Calm down chook.  Its all good mate.  In fact it is as good as it can get. 

The ball bounced off browns chest three times on the lead.  He takes them and he looks like the greatest fit of all time.  

Im wrapped with the win.  Lots of players down.  ANB and Melksham both useless.  Every touch ANB had ended negatively. Every one. almost every one actually

 

 

Jackson will tear a game apart soon.  Young bloke must be getting tired you'd think.

Kossie is indeed a bit special.

We missed VIney a lot.

Ugly win, but nothing wrong with that.  Young blokes carrying the old blokes.  Can you believe it?

Melksham was horrible. From what I saw, the stats he accumulated came mostly after half time when we starting controlling the game better. I'd love to see him dropped.

Agreed that ANB was putrid today. Awful in the first half on Zeibel and couldn’t hit a target in the second half. 
What gets to me about Melksham is that he doesn’t do the team thing like everyone else. I understand he is a very very good user of the footy, but he’s also selfish and lazy. His half hearted tackles are a slap in the face to Spargo who is 4kg wet and yet throws himself at tackles with no care for his safety. 
There are a lot of players working hard in the VFL and big pressure for spots, and so I don’t understand why Melksham hangs onto his spot when he doesn’t do enough.
