Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would you take Jeremy Howe back?

An intellectual lol.

Someone with just a touch of intelligence wouldn’t need to keep asking the difference between May and Howe leaving their respective clubs. They could work it out for themselves.

May has been nothing but respectful to Gold Coast. Where as your mate has stuck the boots in like a smart [censored]. Kids went to watch him with his number on their back, to say he played in front of no crowds shows no class or appreciation of those who supported him, even if it was just a [censored] joke.

And you should probably have a look at your own garbage posts before calling people names, doc.

I wouldn't automatically rule out a player that will be 32 next year, but in Howe's case his body has been ravaged with injury.

Wow, I didn't realise he was that old...

He had a great injury free run there for a while but the last few years haven't been kind.

Collingwood's list is looking worse than I thought with Sidebottom on the way out and Pendles nearer the end than the start and Howey struggling with injury also near the end.

He turns 31 in June this year so that means he's 32 next year.

No sneakiness or fooling about it, 32 is 32...

I take a different view.  Howe was effectively sacked, he wanted to stay and we said no.  I don't think May was in the same position but I don't know what GCS's attitude was.  Like it or not I don't think we handled the Howe situation well at all so I think Howe had good reason to feel hurt by what happened and hence probably didn't feel the need to say nice things about us.

And his quip about small crowds was a funny one liner.  People have thin skins.  If you were the supporter of another club you'd just laugh because it was a reasonably funny comment.  Perhaps he shouldn't have made it, perhaps we shouldn't be such snowflakes.

I never heard anything about him wanting to stay. All I remember is him wanting to be a forward at Collingwood. If that’s the case it changes things slightly.

Anyway I was more in the mode of explaining to Dr Dippy why people don’t like Howe. I personally don’t care about him and have never been offended by anything.

Howe you wanted to leave the morning after a big night in Bali with his childhood hero Bucks and promises of playing forward for the club he loved as a kid and quite literally has a tribute tattoo toward on his ankle

Without him going we would never have had the collateral to bring in Oliver

I know who I prefer in our 22

Howe leaving according to his manager at the time..

Much of Howe's motivation to test the market stems from frustration over the multitude of roles he has been asked to play with the Demons. This year he played predominantly at half-back, and in the past he has alternated between attack and defence.

He is keen to explore a more flexible, floating role as a wingman or high half-forward in the Jack Gunston mould.

I do find the we sacked Jeremy How comment interesting considering in July 2015 it was Howe and his management that put off contract talks until the end of the year.

This article at the time  August 2015 stated that Paul Roos in fact wanted to keep Howe.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/196826/demons-restart-jeremy-howe-contract-talks

With Jeremy we've just started talking to his manager again about what he wants to do.

"We're really keen to have him part of the footy club … he's started to settle in as a defensive player and is playing some really good footy."

Then how do you explain Howe putting contract talks off in the middle of the year?

His manager was adamant that it was Howe's decision as well leaving the club after being pushed to a backline role and not forward which Howe was frustrated with.

Not entirely sure that's spin from his manager.. if he was pushed he would have said so.

Just can't see a role for him alas. Lever is our intercept mark in the back line, and Fritsch is our medium sized marking forward.
While I don't hold grudges, some of his [censored] comments about his time with us have been remembered too.

I believe he was pushed...so maybe that makes 2 of us.

He didn't get the warm and cuddly embrace and looked elsewhere.

Is this the interview that you speak of?

It's really not that bad. We came 13th, 17th, 17th, 16th, 13th in the 5 years prior. He doesn't owe us anything. He made himself an A grade quality player because he left Melbourne. Best decision he's ever made. He got into career best form at the pies so he clearly needed a change of scenery.

My understanding was that we were keen for him to accept a significant offer from the Gold Coast, which would have netted is a top 10 pick (7 I think).

I don’t believe we were keen for him to leave to Collingwood for next to nothing.

Collingwood came in very late in the process when the GC trade was all but a done deal.  Howe accepted significantly less money and we received significantly less in return.

Well it can join the long list of MFC rewritten history along with the departures of Alves & Jolly and the Henry Coles & Shane Zantuck altercations.

I have no reason not to believe you, as I know your track record.

I am curious, do you know why he was pushed?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
