Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Recruited from St.Kilda. Oh God, another reject Saint. Na, played well for them over a long period, well past his useby date when we traded for him. Was under Balme's magnificent era of achievement. So, that would have been '94 or '95 I think. Thats all I can manage.

if u remember, he used to be one of the pin-up biys @ the Saints. He also featured as a lifesize cardboard cut out for Elastoplast sports braces & bandages you would often walk into @ chemists. Great, isnt it!!

TOP 10 DISAPPOINTS THAT I REMEMBER.

1# ALLEN JAKOVICH - Had all the talent and flair to be a great at the club but did not have then discipline imagine if he had the discipline of his brother.

2# SEAN CHARLES - Again had all the talent but could not handle life in the AFL.

3# DARREN CUTHBERTSON - His first 5 games were fantastic but for some reason he lost the plot and was never the same player again.

4# BRENT GRGIC - Remember his game against Collingwood in '98 when he took 12 marks. It wasn't long before he was a disgrace.

5# DARREN KOWAL - We decided to keep him instead of recruiting Wirrapunda GREAT MOVE BALMEY !!!

6# SHANE WOEWODIN - Winning the Brownlow was the worst thing that ever happened to him.

7# CHRIS HEFFERNAN - Had a big reputation never delivered.

8# CRAIG TURLEY - Another player with a big repuation that didn't deliver was later found out he already had back problems before we recruited him another great move Balmey.

9# MARCUS SEECAMP - Should of held on to Martin Pike.

10# NEIL BALME - I know he never played a game for us but as a coach he was a disgrace, had a big reputation as a coach after winning a priemership with Norwood and Woodville West Torrens. His decision to recruit heaps of rejects instead of youngsters was a real winner and put us 10 years behind the rest of the competition.

What a surprise to see you reply to this thread. :P

I have to disagree with Schwarze being a disappointing player. Sure he had great potential then went down with 3 heart-wrenching knee injuries, but when he came back he put on a lot of weight and was the immovable object at CHF. Ox along with the Wiz were our game-breakers for a number of years.

The electrifying season of '94 promised so much for seasons to come, but Schwarz was forced to take a different path and role in the team and became our power forward. No one has delivered what Schwartz did, Neita is the closest one and he is still a mile off.

Schwarz was a champion and definately a hero at our club, and he furthered his status if not bettered it when he found his feet after the 3 knee reco's.

The idea of starting a thread for discussion about poor returns from individuals is always going to turn into a sledge fest

I played a bit of footy, as well as I could, and as hard as I could, I doubt that any player worth his salt plays any differently, and I am bloody sure that any of the players we have picked up would not be any different in their attitude and intent

If I had had the ability and the good fortune to have been picked up by the Dees I would never expect to be disparaged by the supporters as have the players you have vilified here

This is supposed to be a supporters site

GOD help us if this is where we are heading

We were unlucky yesterday we'll be a lot better as the year goes on don't jump off the band wagon because when you want to get back on the driver won't stop for you

Where players are being villified I would agree with you. ON the other hand, supporters and members pay money to 'participate' and are entitled to a point of view. The players are on excellent money and better than most posters would ever have access to I would imagine. Supporters (in my case 43 years worth) who have maintained such a long vigil after our last premiership are surely entitled to their wistful obervations of players who didn't come up scratch (in their supporters' imagination) - as long as comments are kept in good taste I think the footballers are big enough to take it.

Our greatest club champion simply walked out the door for money once - we the supporters can't do the same - we are stuck with our club for better or worse.

Some of the comments are obviously weird - how could David Schwartz be considered other than an inspiration. He offered more as a player than we had experienced at our club post-war and was cruelly cut short in 1995. Same with Prymke. Same with Tingay. Finally, I am not into sledging personal aspects of players - ie alcohol etc... and i would agree wholeheartedly with the last poster on this point.

John - I believe this is the original thread that you are referring to.

I do not believe my original posting constitutes a bucketing in any way, as you so insinuate.

It makes plenty of allowances for anyone who was hamstrung, so to speak, by injury, for instance.

I also went out of my way to state that anyone who played for the Demons is to be treated with a fundamental respect. Nor did I offer comment on specific cases.

Bucketing aplenty of a different weight-division can be found elsewhere, say, on Puntroadend.com.

Prymke is one of my big disappointments, as he displayed his mettle well and truly in the 94 Final against Carlton, and then his troublesome back intervened. Now, does this constitute a venomous personal attack? Greg Healy is also on the list. he took one of the most courageous marks I have ever seen, but the knee injury brought down the show.

having been a paid-up member since 1982, I am also aware in general (the mind is not what it once was) of your injuries as well.

Now this is a general comment. None of us can escape criticial evaulation. I am under the microscope every day of the week.

Dedicated fans have the right to express their hopes, fears and yes, disappointments in a forum such as this. God knows that many of us have suffered enough (in our way way) to earn this right. Yes, the expression of disappointment should be constructive, or at least, not a personal attack on the person in question, and my original posting was certainly not the latter.

Respectfully, Biffinator.

Biffinator!

Good on you for apologising to John Fidge. It's the right thing to do.

Now, could you do the rest of us all a favour and get rid of that disgusting character on your avatar please. In fact, if there are any images of John or Ted Fidge going around the internet, I think you owe it to them to replace Elvis with one of the Fidges.

Graeme Osborne 60's & 70"s - Showed a bit at every position except rover, but not for long. Played mainly as a ruckrover from (dim) memory. My last recollection is being several points down in a Reserves GF. No. 7 has the ball on HFF and sprinting forward. Siren sounds. First time that I used the magic word at the footy.

#4 c. 1990. I seem to have blotted out his name. He was a promising lively CHF in Round one 1987 (up from the Ammos?). Found the gym and became just another shortish immobile FB.

Adem Yze - 1997 to 2002 was silky skilled HBF. Be still my foolish heart when he took on three opponents and gently soccered the ball for a team-mate to pick up. 2003 to 2006 did not appear to try.

Graeme Molloy, SA CHF but only 5'11 1/2", John Fidge FF at 5' 10 1/2". Disappointing; well derr.

Apparently, Tony Sullivan had an off-day for the Big V against Malloy and made hiim look good.

Tilbrook was on $18k for three seasons which in the early 1970/s was a sum that beggared the imagination. Similar to Heifernan, he had to be picked because of the capital investmant. They shunted Biffin to BP and played him at FB. One match he had four kicks; four lovely goals. Then one match he was on fire against the Maggies FB (probably Cooper) kicking four in the first quarter but then they moved MAx Richardson onto him.

Heffernan. Played some great footy at the Dons, and was touted as future captain. The we picked him up as the Dons were forced to trade away some talent or fall down the ladder badly. I thought we'd got a steal. What we got was midfield depth, and poor one at that. Disappointing.

BTW, Heff was a late inclusion in Essendon's team yesterday and one radio station gave him an award for his good play. I'm not sure what the award was about because I was handling an episode of road rage at the time from a driver who thought she had right of way even when facing a stop sign.

HOW WAS MARTIN PIKE NOT ADDED TO ANYONE LIST?????????????????????

Pick 4 overall, did nothing except booze and lose head hair!!!!!

He was REALLY REALLY frustrating to watch. Lazy, but talented. Was always unfit.

Jay Viney is also worth a mention. He was apparently "better than Todd" (todd was a great MFC footballer). Jay was suspected of steriod abuse if i am not mistaken, and vanished.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
