Also, Gawn, Oliver, May and TMAC need to accept umpiring decisions quickly without throwing their arms in the air. That the boys can control, it might just turn around any perception that our leaders sook too much on the field.

It declares a certain lack of resilience amongst our leaders at times. Shut the mouth, get on with the game, don't acknowledge the umpiring errors and the less-than-acceptable decision-making. We clearly see the situated interference with games through the umpires where history dictates there ain't no point in complaining, anymore.

Last 10 finals Dogs have won the free kick count. Just sayin....

Yep, I'm flat out refusing to watch us play against them if we have to,

round 19 count was 25-11

SIlvertails vs Proletariat?

We know where the free kicks are going...

4 verrrry dubious free kicks fr 4 goals to weightman. that’s game changing umpiring.

I ran this through the old stats calculator. Mean -0.11, standard deviation 31.7. All numbers comfortably within 3 standard deviations. Chance of 72 or more: 1%. Change of -86 or lower: 1%. So outliers, but (unfortunately) nothing extraordinary.

I also ran it through the old conspiracy calculator and it ranked the Dogs as "teachers pets". So again no raised eyebrows.

I also ran it through the old mongrel calculator and it confirmed that Richmond are in fact mongrels. So that makes it official.

Did your calculator explain why the numbers don't add up to zero? (Not that it makes much difference, but the home and away figures add up to -2.)

25-11 in the wettest slippery conditions was a Godsend to the dogs and sealed the game for them.

They've never added up. It's a zero-sum game as you as clearly aware, but the published numbers have never added up when I've checked them. They're always out by a small number. But I figure it doesn't change the big picture much.

Worst result for a team in the 8.

Interesting that the cats...crows...port and eagles with their home booing crowds have a lot of frees.

In one of my group chats a message about Oliver is quoted every Melbourne Game.

the message is along the lines of "Put your arms down Oliver you (nasty expletive)"

I actually thought that our game on Saturday night was really well umpired. Except a couple of idiotic dangerous tackle calls, which went both way, it was a game where you didn't notice the umpires at all. And that is a good game.

Say what you like about Ray, he is a good umpire.

I think a Royal Commission is required to get to the bottom of this.

Yeh that confused me a little.

On first viewing there didn't seem to be a lot on the ones called against Harmes, and then Lever was slammed to the ground and that wasn't called, then one in favour of Harmes was called. I'd need to re-watch again but thought the Lever one was the most dangerous on first viewing.

I thought the same. I didn't notice the umpires, which is always a positive sign.

I actually think he is one of the better umpires. He might be a bit theatrical at times but his explanations are always appreciated. Some umpires just say "that's what I thought happened" without giving an actual explanation.

Yes, the Dogs do get the rub of the green, but that is just plain wrong… the last on the boundary line was dubious, but the first three were free kicks every day of the week.

Agree to disagree HT. i guess to be fair to your point though, and adjust my original i reckon he was dead set gifted 2 and you could argue the toss on the other two. if it was against the dees i’d have a hard time swallowing that.

cameron got his first goal from a lion's player about to go out of bounds, who did a blind over the head 30m handball. if that wasn't a throw i'll go he.

Dogs back to dominating the free kick count, 22 to 14 today.

I saw all of those frees and don't believe any were there really. Then there's Gerard Whately on AFL 360 seemingly trying to divert attention from the dogs getting the rub of the green and arguing that Weightman wasn't playing for frees. Well that's obvious Gerard, clearly he wasn't!! But get back to the point. Why do the Bulldogs seem to get these runs of [censored] free kicks at opportune times? Address that for once. Pisses me off. If we lose a flag or something because of this, I'm not sure I'll cope.

Because a lot of the time, the bulldogs are first to the ball.

The only real bad free against Cody was the first one. Cody is clearly pulling the Essendon players arm down into his neck for the free.

The Draper one was incidental contact but can see why the umpire paid it on first look as it looked like a clothesline from behind.

The holding one is there even if it's soft, the Essendon player held him by the jumper and pulled him back then let go.

The push in the back on the boundary was a terrible call cos the bump from the other Essendon player is what made contact with him. Thats the umpires fault, not Codys.

The Bulldogs get a gifted run from the umps, that’s a statistical fact. The other fact is that there will be an overt correction on their free kick differential this weekend because it’s been a big media story. The AFL/Umps are nothing if not reactive to media influence. Not suggesting they lose the free kick count, that would be ridiculous, just an obvious correction, particularly in forward 50. Weightman may not get any.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
