we need cunningham to lift deep forward

Don't we always ?

Probable 2 goal turn around with the sheparding free against ?Paxy mid 2nd quarter was the difference. We feel like the better team but Brisbane take their chances. Should be a good 2nd half. Hope Daisy is ok!

Lions pressure was very good that quarter.  We are fumbling as a result, we just have to be cleaner.  Bris were v impressive last week against North.  I had forgotten that Meg D is another defender who is an unreliable kick, our defence is full of them, our midfield needs to keep helping out.  That Colvin act that resulted in a 50 meter penalty and goal was costly too.  We will need a huge effort in the second half to win.  Great efforts by Shelley Scott and Zanker so far.  C’mon girls.

Half time 3. 1 to 5. O to Bris

Brisbane made the most of the opportunities.

Good quality game, hard run. good pressure, backlines of both team repelling the play.

bears just look a bit better, and they don't miss

and thanks to @Demonland for putting the match day thread on the 'main' forum today but it's clearly influenced the result

it is such a bummer to see daisy with that massive brace on her knee

3 quarter time.

4. 1 to 6. 0 Brisbane way

Hard gut running football.

Melbourne don't give up. They are trying to construct a win, they are almost.

Hoping Brisbane fade in the lat.

Paxman back to midfield,  Scott in the forwardline.

They look better than us but we are hanging around ....... close enough, but we need a big last quarter.   Time for Paxy, who is having a stinker by her lofty standards, to lead from the front.

The skills are getting so much better and the fitness for woman’s footy is incredible nowadays. Come on Dees bring it home!

I wish the men played with half the heart of this team. They are an absolute pleasure to watch.

Well that was exciting.

Well done ladies. Home with a wet sail

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
