Williams was very positive about Weid - comparing him to early Tredrea and Chad Cornes.  Brendan McCartney was also a big Weid fan.  I'm keen to see what he can produce this year.

It would be truly excellent if the Weed could break out soon. It has been a long apprenticeship to date, so the formatives should be starting to emerge into consistencies. Perhaps it will be Chocko and Yze who can bring this to the fore for the young bloke. Positivism leads to intent - and spurs action.

The main thing I took out of that interview was his thankfulness to be given another chance in the AFL, he seemed genuinely thankful and it seems to reflect in his passion for the job.

Was it Chico’s Poet team that kill the Dons run after they belted us in 2000?
if so, all hail Nark Williams!!!

Very excited to have Mark "Choco" Williams on board at the Demons as head of development.

His brief interview was super impressive!

You can tell he is incredibly passionate about football and loves teaching younger players.

Looking forward to the impact he will begin to have on our younger players this year and beyond.

A wonderful recruit for the Demons to obtain!

PAUL RB No it was the Brisbane Lions That beat the Bombers  in 2001 And Pies in 2002and 2003 for the 3 peat.

Port finished on top of the ladder but choked in Finals  till 2004 when they were too tough for an injury laden Lions outfit at  the end of their magnificent run.

Choco was Their  Coach Till after they were beaten in the 2007 GF by The Cats who broke a 44 year drought and record GF margin of 117 points. In 2009 Choco was replaced at Porg and has been Assistant at GWS and Tigers  And Werribee VFL team in the meantime.

Lets all hope he Can guide us and Upskill  the players to success.

I wouldn't exactly say the results were on display on the weekend but I'm really glad he's with us and I have no doubt he would've been filthy at some of the poor kicks/misses in front of goal.

Rnd 1, hot weather, fatigue, he’s been here a short time etc etc. Give it time and it will prevail, unless our players are not listening to him.

Was mentioned on Saturday that he has challenged the coaches constantly causing a level of discomfort that is seen as a massive positive within the footy dept.

After the rumours of the assistant coaches acting as a bunch of ‘yes men’ to Goodwin in the bubble, this is an excellent development for the head coach and players alike.

Be interesting to know how much truth there is to that, you want all your coaches supporting the head coach in the direction of the team but you also want a free exchange of ideas and opinions. Especially if there are issues with gameplan and how players are performing.

Doesn’t sound like Choco left the tigers under the most mutual of circumstances so it could have been Hardwick didn’t like Chico’s voicing of strong opinions.

yep. It’s sounds like the line he walks over  . Hopefully he’s learned something and can tread it in the right way. love to hear from insider about how this is actually working.

It was a board member who said it. With a huge smile on their face I might add.

I don’t think he’s seen as someone who oversteps the mark. I think he brings such a different view point and is so strong willed that he creates discussions that some aren’t used to. Which I think is a great thing.

I must admit to not really liking his hire initially but little bits of information like that have turned me around.

I hope you weren't on the same drugs when you wrote that as the original author was.

watching the game last night - and particularly the first half where the ball movement and scoring was ballistic from 2 teams not particularly noted for it, made me think that the recruitment of May, Lever, Brown and Choco could be inspired (or the sort of dumb luck that we haven't had for about 50 years!).

This followed on from the 3 week suspension of Danger, which I was 90% sure would be 2 weeks. Either at first, or then on appeal.

Did someone leave an offering at Norm Smith's statue last Saturday?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
