Oh, but I thought Goodwin said it was a knock to the chest? Further proof that the bloke has NFI and just spins BS.

That was obviously the line was club  was spinning (not just SG) - as Stevo on C7 said categorically on the news on Monday after the game that he would not be subject to concussion protocols.

More fool me for believing he knew what he was talking about. Going out to buy a Herald Sun now just to make sure I remain well informed

Concussions can be caused by whiplash. Maybe the knock to the chest caused concussion that way?

I'm just stirring the pot. Surely we don't have to keep reminding posters that everyone lies in the AFL? It's the second language of football (after gobbledygook).

No so, concussion happens from acceleration or deceleration of the brain inside of the skull; can happen from a hit directly to the head or body.

From the footage of the incident, you can see he was struggling. Placed into recovery position by the support staff, when he got up he looked like he wanted to keep playing, I also thought he was going to stagger but he got up fine and jogged off.

Anyone at the game could see he was concussed. He didn’t move. So I dunno why Simon tried to spin us a line about a chest hit.

Watch the footage and you'll see May repeatedly point to his chest

FCS, watch his post-match press conference.  He did not hide the concussion issue.  This is getting tedious.

Possibly put into recovery position because he couldn't breath easily. Also rolled him onto his back, if concussed he might swallow his tongue in that position. Chest hit with slight concussion.

When the community series was first publicised it was stated that there would be a weekend in between the series and the opening round and among other things, this would enable players who suffered concussion enough time to recover under the rules. I assume this is a direct reference to the “12” day concussion rule.

If it were otherwise then the four clubs that played on Monday would be at a relative disadvantage to the other clubs.

AFL rules - anyone's guess how they interpret things but the article says

Under the new guidelines, the earliest that a player can return to play after a concussion is on the 12th day after the day on which the concussion was sustained.

The concussion occurred on the 8th

The first day after was the 9th , the 12th day after is the 20th - therefore he would be ok to play that day

should call it the 11 day rule

I had to stop playing for this reason - its also amazing when susceptible how easily you can get whiplash and then concussion.   Any body contact can do it, henceforth why a lot of players are retiring now - it can be a hit to any part of the upper body

"I'm perfectly fine. What's that? What day is it? Friday. Who are we playing ... Everton. Stop asking these questions and let me get back to the game. Who are you? You're me, you fool. But who's this guy right here? This one, right here."

Wonder if this has any impact on whether May plays?

I don't think they can go longer than 12 days, not so close to the season and with the evidence still up for debate.

There's 2 steps I think they should make:

1. Independent doctors
2. A specific umpire stoppage for head injury assessments similar to the blood rule.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
